Phytolacca

Dear Angela,
Thanks for the email. I was fascinated by the stuff on Phtolacca which I
have used for acute symptoms of mastitis, mumps and other glandular
affections. When I read that lovely Medieval ditty of 'Phytolaccae Phylus as
'Poke Root', I thought of another use for my practice, which would be as an
LM potence. Thanks for the continued insight and inspiration !

I know a man who's family traditionally ate phytolacca in the early
spring.
said it 'cleaned them out', loosened the bowels and as an evacuant.
the leaves he said must be eaten (boiled well) before they got more than
4 inches tall, after that the plant was not eaten at all.
I have taken phytolacca in potency. Started with a 6 C after a couple of
insect bites (stings?) left two large lumps above my right elbow. One
was the size of a small lemon, the other the size of a walnut - both
extremely painful.
the remedy in 6C took some of the pain away. Then since I didn't have a
30C, I popped a 200C, it put me to bed for 2 days, yet I felt
wonderful! Chest pains on the right side on inhailation, one of those
'fetching' almost a pleurisy type symptom - yet a couple of days later
when I tried to work out, I could breath quite nicely. There is a lot
of potassium in the plant, I believe, it regulated my heartbeat that
skipped and was alternating a bit weekly at times, it helped out with a
lot of mentals, themes of being 'unworthy' of some great honor or if
not unworthy not up to the task at hand seem to be a mental 'proving' I
experienced with the plant.(think of the young mom presented with this
beautiful infant she is to care for and protect, etc - how did she
'rate' having such a beautiful baby? Is she up to the task of caring for
it?)- Either way, I settled down happily into previously 'worrisome'
work with a lighter heart and less anxiety.
There are many rheumatic symptoms to it, as well as its noted affect on
the gladular system.
BTW, I had a past history of multiple cases of mastitis with each of my
three children during lactation. My mom also had a history of mastitis
with self and each of my siblings (there were 6 of us).
A great remedy, and probably underused. I love this remedy, and hope we
will find much more about it.
warm regards,
Maria

Hi Maria,
I find this fascinating! The more so since my rep doesn't show mentals
suggestive of what you've described (issues of "unworthiness") -- tho it
shows plenty of what could easily be a "flip side" of that -- apathy,
anguish, weeping, etc. I'm curious whether anyone has information that can
add context to Maria's experience? Family information, anything else?
Thanks!

The issues of 'unworthiness' in Phytolacca come from indifference, feeling
they are going to die, they do not care about themselves anymore (loss of
personal delicacy) and thus eventually become shameless - sometimes this
shamelessness is seen as a literal 'nakedness' but emotionally this can be
seen as 'not caring about what they look like' which brings us back to
issues of being unworthy.
best wishes, Joy

"It is perhaps indulging in commonplace remarks to say anything about
Phytolacca and the mammae but let me tell you that the woman who needs
this remedy either before, during or after pregnancy and fails to get
it, will never be well until she does.
She will have indications of some sort, goitre, fibroids, etc. or will
be affected with rheumatoid symptoms that refuse to yield to ordinary
remedies. Only by taking the whole of her past history along with the
present state and forming a complete picture will the proper indications
come out, and the Phytolacca constitution be evident."
