Hi all
There are 2 varieties of Phytolacca available with the local dealer in tincture form;
Phyt. decandra
and Phyt. berries

Please be so kind to indicate which is the correct Homeopathic pharmacopoeia version and which part of plant to be used is more important esp., for. obesity treatment

Dear Dr Imam,

the follwoing information I foud in the booklet: Homöopathisches
Repetetorium, Arzneimittellehre in Tabellenform, ed. by Deutsche
Homöopathische Union (Karlsruhe 1994) p.234

Phytolacca,
Latin: Phytolacca americana L.(syn. Phytolaccda decandra L.)
German: Kermesbeere;
Fam. nat.: Phytolacceae
Nordamerika, in Deutschland angebaut
Frische Wurzel im Herbst gesammelt
Alkaloid: Phytolaccin, a Saponin, Phytolaccasäure
======================================
According to Allen's Keywords, the English name is "Poke Root".
======================================
Robin Murphy, Homeopathic Medical Repertory (Pagoda Springs, Col.:
Hahneman Academy of North America 1993) p. 1566
There two remedies are mentioned:
phyt. = phytolacca decandra, Poke root, weed
phyt-b. phytolacca berry

======================================

Now some exerpts refering to phytolacca decandra:

1) Stacy Jones, The Mnemonic Similad (Philadelphia Boericke and Tafel
1904)

Phytolacca,-Anti-fat!
Rheumatism's habitat.
Quelcheth thou, as case may be
Syphilis or mercury,
Also with a vigorous swipe
Ailments of malignant type.
Inflammation of the throat,-
Type malignant as we note-
Diphtheritic, or perchance
Scarlatinal in advance,
Or from syphilitic fire,
Mersed in ulceration dire,
When on swallowing appears.
Pain in root of tongue, and ears,
Or as meet attendant whim
Aching in the back and limb.
Pain along the bones at night,
Is thy customary plight.
Foul eruptions on the skin,
Ulceration out and in.
Even cancer taking flight
From the presence of thy might.
Thou of all our agents best
For inflammed and gathered breast,
Or for breast and pains that begin
When the milk is flowing in,
Or for lochia suppressed,
These, with headache once a week,
And red-tip tongue bespeak
Phyto.-and the more, if when
Scarce you finish eating, then,
Appetite sets in again.

2. H. C. Allen, M. D., Keynotes And Characteristics. With Comparisons of
some of the Leading Remedies of the Materia Medica
(Philadelphia: Boericke and Tafel, 1916)

Phytolacca
Patients of a rheumatic diathesis; rheumatism of fibrous and periosteal
tissue; mercurial or syphilitic.

Emaciation, chlorosis; loss of fat.

Great exhaustion and profound prostration.

Occupies a position between Bryonia and Rhus ; cures when these fail,
though apparently well indicated.

In rheumatism and neuralgia after diphtheria, gonorrhea, mercury or
syphilis.

Pain flying like electric shocks; shooting, lancinating: rapidly
shifting ( Lac c. , Puls. ); worse from motion and at night.

Entire indifference to life; sure she will die.

Vertigo: when rising from bed feels faint ( Bry. ).

Intense headache and backache; lame, sore bruised feeling all over;
constant desire to move but motion Rhus ).

Irresistible desire to bit the teeth or gums together ( Pod. ); during
dentition.

Sore throat; of a dark color; uvula large, dropsical, almost translucent
( Kali bi. , Rhus )

Diphtheria: pains shoot from throat into ears on swallowing; great pain
at root of tongue when swallowing; burning, as from a
coal of fire or a red-hot iron: dryness; difficult to swallow with
trembling of the hands; sensation of a lump in the throat with
continuous desire to swallow; tonsils, uvula and back part of throat
covered with ash-colored membrane; cannot drink hot
fluids ( Lach. ).

Carotid and submaxillary glands indurated after diphtheria, scarlet
fever.

Mammae full of hard, painful nodosities.

Breast; shows an early tendency to cake; is full, stony, hard and
painful, especially when suppuration is inevitable; when child
nurses pain goes from nipple to all over body (goes to back, Crot. t. ;
to uterus, Puls. , Sil. ).

Mammary abscess; fistulae, gaping, angry ulcers; pus sanious, ichorous,
fetid; unhealthy.

Tumefied breast neither heals nor suppurates, is of a purple hue and
"hard as old cheese" ( Bry. , Lac c. , [Phel.]).

Nipples, sensitive, sore, fissured ( Graph. ); < intensely by nursing,
pain radiates over whole body.

Hastens suppuration ( Hep. , Lach. , Mer. , Sil. ).

Relations. - Compare: Kali i. , its analogue.

Aggravation. - When it rains: exposure to damp, cold weather.

3. H.R. Arndt, First Lessons in the Symptomatology of Leading
Homoeopathic Remedies (Philadelphia: Boericke and Tafel 1904)

Pytolacca
Indicated in sore throat, chiefly diphtheria, with grayish deposit and
abundant tough, sticky mucus; chronic rheumatism,
especially in the hip and thigh, worse from any change in the weather;
bone pains (syphilis). Useful in mastitis.

Throat dark red, purplish; soft palate and tonsils swollen; feeling of a
lump in the throat.

Throat covered with grayish-white pseudo-membrane.

Swallowing difficult, accompanied with intense pain extending into and
through the ears; cannot swallow hot drinks.

Throat and mouth filled with thick, tenacious, ropy mucus, which it is
almost impossible to dislodge; it sometimes runs out of the
mouth in long tenacious strings, difficult to remove.

Great hardness and sensitiveness of the mammae; cracks in the nipples;
sore places around the nipple; nursing causes intense
pain radiating from the nipple to other parts.

Pain in the extremities, burning, lancinating, shooting, like electric
shocks, changing location often.

Boils and carbuncles, with burning pain in them; worse at night;
glandular swellings.

Worse during rain; from damp; cold weather; at night; from motion.

Hopefully, those texts contain some of the information you were looking
for

Sincerly

Dear Dr Afsar

According to Clarke's dictionary:
Phytolacca Decandra: Virgin Poke, Poke root, Red ink plant, garet weed

N O Phytolaccaceae
Tincture of fresh root dug in water
Tincture of ripe berries
Tincture of fresh leaves
Solution of resinous extract Phytocatin.
"Wild pigeons and other birds which eat the berries acquire a highly red colour and lose their fat. This last observation has led to the use of a tincture of Phyt. berries as an anti-fat."

However, if you are treating a patient with chronic disease and obesity, you must look at the totality and the causes and miasm.

A bad diet and poor exercise regime can be part of the maintaining cause.
Need also to check the thyroid function.

Do not treat the part, treat the whole and heal it.

I had an acute case, female, 41, sour throat, Swollen glands around the neck,
Thirst, pain at root of tongue - could hardly push tongue out
swallowing difficult,
pain shooting from throat to ears.

1 dose of Phyto 30 - throat better very quickly and within 30 minutes the gland had gone down considerably.
Good healing
Soroush

Dear Soroush,

I enjoyed your piece on Phytolacca which I have mainly used for cautes of
glandular problems. Your thoughts regarding its use in obesity is intersting
and I do agree with you that a holistic perspective is always best..

Thanks again,

Claudia,

Thank you for posting the phytolacca poem. Where did you find this book?
Is it still in print?
