I do listen to Democracy Now (and similar programs), and some number of
other folks around me do, but not that many. Also, the "great divide"
between the imrpession one gets from some public radio broadcasts versus
what was sees in the (in some folks' opinion) "real" news, and what one sees
around one, I think makes it too easy (for some folks) to dismiss some of
the issues.

Most folks around me -- and I would guess most of "middle America" -- do not
spend time "looking for trouble" by independently researching these things
on the internet. I'm not looking for an "excuse" for myself, I'm just
stating my opinion about why the country's level of complacency and
ignorance is so dangerous. Personally I am *not* complacent. Ineffectual
yes, but complacent no.

Tell me (privately, I guess) about your WAKINGUP list?

I think, tho, that this is another "off-topic" that is not really off-topic.
If any area of society needs protection of "freedoms", that certainly
includes areas deemed "alternative" (i.e. "fringe", i.e. "nobody I know").
And much of what's going on in the States will *NOT* stay in the states, if
it succeeds here -- I think history (US and world) makes that *VERY* clear.
We always *were* "all in this together", but as the world gets (so to speak)
smaller, and the stakes get higher, and the consolidation of power gets more
consolidated, well, it really is *everyone's* issue, in my humble opinion.

Which has always been the case, but having an bezerk 800 pound gorilla loose
in your house is even more dangerous than, well, something equally bezerk
but smaller.
