On provings

Post by snoozybun »

It is my understanding that most provings are done with lower attenuations, such as 30c and below. Is this correct? Or are provings
also done with very high potencies? And if so, are deeper and higher symptoms (more core and more mentals) elicited?

Generally provings are done in the lower attenuations.

However, there is no "rule" about this; it is probably a hang-over from
Hahnemann's day when the lower potencies were what was used for prescribing
anyway.

I have conducted a few provings and lower potencies were the most used.
However, I've just finished conducting a proving of Liquor amnii and used
all common potencies from 3C to 200C; (I haven't looked at the diaries yet
so no questions please!)

When I did the proving of Lac Maternum I used LM6 and MK as these were the
potencies given to me by Tinus Smits and I had no others. We got a good
range of mental/emotional and physical symptoms with both of those 2
potencies.
I'd like to see more LM potencies used in provings.

You can get some detail from the ECCH site at www.homeopathy-ecch.org , they have an article on "Recommended Guidelines for Good Provings" and the bibliography cites:

Samuel Hahnemann Organon of Medicine
J. T. Kent Lectures on Homeopathic Philosophy
Jeremy Sherr The Dynamics and Methodology of Homeopathic Provings
George Vithoulkas The Science of Homeopathy

asked:
Provings have been done with all sorts of potencies.
However, Hughes, in his Cyclopedia of Drug Patyhogenesy, discounted
all the high potency provings because of his prejudice against higher
potencies.
Malcolm MacFarlan did a whole series of "high potency provings" using
10M and above. His book is available as a reprint from Indian
publishers.
