Yes - somewhere I read and I believe it was based on the JAMA info, that
statisically you are 9000 times more likely to be killed by the allo group
than by handgun.
And us Canadians have to register our guns ????

I'm not a big fan of today's major medical system, but this is the sort of
statistic that gives statistics a bad name...

In a message dated 23/11/2003 15:49:24 GMT Standard Time,
minutus@yahoogroups.com writes:
IMO a lot of people killed by handguns are also indirectly killed by Doctors,
as I understand that a lot of murders are committed by people under the
influence of Prozac, Seroxat or other similar antidepressants. In newspaper reports
of murders, especially mass murders, you will usually see something along the
lines of 'the suspect was undergoing treatment for depression'
There was a UK Radio 4 programme some time ago highlighting the efforts drug
companies had gone to - including huge out of court settlements and refusing
to hand over trial data - to avoid having to declare violence and suicide as a
possible side effect of the drugs.
IMO it is the drug companies at fault, they were deliberately misinforming
doctors.
I understand that now they have new alternatives on the market they are
admitting to these side affects of the old drugs in an attempt to sell the newer
(and presumably more expensive) alternatives.
