Attention: Homeopathic Journalist
Posted: Mon Nov 17, 2003 4:44 pm
Dear Sir, Colleagues, Members and Friends,
I appreciate the work done by Zaidee in the field of homeopathy and computer. Just like Dr. Zaidee there are so many other homeopathic doctors in Pakistan which also have interest in computer field. I received many reports in my office about the social and homeopathic activities of homeopathic doctors. Homeopathic doctors also arranged computer exhibitions and computer seminars. Just a week ago, Dr. MAS incorporated / arranged a computer exhibition and seminar in Jhelum City near Pakistan Chowk, that was the first exhibition of its kind in that city. Both were arranged at different places. The entry in the seminar was free. With the help of Computer and multimedia devices, he warned homeopathic journalist against “REPETITIVE STRAIN INJURY”, this disease has a great threat to homeopathic journalist using computers. He said many homeopaths always found online. He said continuous use of Internet and computer may harm their health. He highlighted various repercussions of use of mailing lists and homeopathic discussion board. He also said “that is why I only visit one Bulletin board in a week and copy my material of my interest in printed form”. He said we should avoid daily visiting of boards and mailing lists. The seminar was quite informative. Few other doctors also spoke on the occasion. The audience said these kinds of seminars create awareness among the general public about the uses and abuses of computer and Internet. He has arranged so many computer exhibitions for poor community of our country free of cost. Few exhibitions were based on homeopathic software. Dr. MAS is the first computer programmer who designed free homeopathic computer software which was inaugurated by Ex-Governor of the Punjab state of Pakistan. He delivered free copies of this software through out the world. These exhibitions were held in Islamabad, Lahore and other cities. High government gentries were invited to inaugurate computer exhibitions. In this kind of exhibitions students from different schools and colleges also participate. Here is the glimpse of the latest development.

COMPUTER SEMINAR
Introduction
1. Computer is one of the greatest inventions of 20th century. The revolution, which was brought by the invention of wheel in the world, the more or less the same revolution is brought by the computer in to day’s world.
2. The rapid growth in electronics over the past quarter century has been phenomenal. What we have seen is not an evolution in technology but a revolution. Our society, our business, our homes and leisure activities are being transformed.
3. Electronic digital computers are general purpose data processing machines that they are designed to perform a variety of tasks. The people, who buy and use computers, are a diverse group – business people, teachers, students, doctors, lawyers, artists, engineers, scientists and soldiers. Computer fulfills the needs of majority of the people from almost every sphere of life.
4. Computers obviously affect our lives in many ways. Computers and electronic technology has been penetrated into our society. They now play an important role in how we learn, how we take care of our money, how we are benefited and how we are entertained. To day, there is probably no better indication of advancement of a society than how much computerized it is?
5. In our society, computers are now fundamental components of our jobs, our school and colleges, our stores, our means of transportation, our health care and our entertainment. Essentially all of our medical and scientific facilities now depend entirely upon incredibly complex computer based systems.
6. Internet, which is the net of computers connected together all over the world, provides many services to the million of people. Having access to Internet means that you can access any kind of information, while relaxing in your bedroom. You can find jobs, communicate with friends, customers, scholars on any subject. The rapid and wide spread of Internet reveals its importance felt in the recent years and provides the answer how did this remarkable technology developed in a short span of time. The current number of people who use the Internet can only be estimated. It is widely assumed that at least half of the world’s population will have some form of Internet access by 2010.
Aim
7. The aim of this seminar is to highlight the importance and uses of computers in education.

Computers and Education
9. Education means the transfer of knowledge and information from a teacher to the students. The teachers give the students new concepts and ideas. The teacher takes the help of different aiding tools to elaborate the concepts and phenomena in order to make the students better understand them. Especially the teachers, who teach the science subjects, take the help of different kinds of models, charts, maps, diagrams and audio visual aids to teach the students in classroom. Now a days the computers are being used to impart knowledge at all levels. The teachers prepare the lesson plan and slides using computers. It is well said that a picture is worth of thousands words. Using computers, the teachers can show pictures, models, movies and comparison charts to the students. Due to computers the speed of transferring knowledge has increased, because the teacher can deliver a long lesson in minimum time using computer slides.
How Computers can be used in Education
10. Computers can be used in many ways in teaching / learning activities. The Instructors prepare their lessons and presentations using computers. A large number of tutorial programs are available for teaching various topics. Ready made educational application packages pertaining to different subjects are available for use in Schools and Colleges. Computers can be used in education for testing and evaluating the performance of students. Most of the quiz types of tests are conducted with the help of computers.
Computer Assisted Instructions (CAI)
11. It does not involve teaching about computers but rather using computers as an aid in the class room instruction of a particular subject matter. Computer assisted instruction is a system of individualized instruction that uses a program presented by a computer as the learning medium. There are four major types of CAI systems:-
a. Drill and Practice. The teacher introduces concepts and presents new ideas in the conventional manner. The role of a computer is to provide regular review and practice on basic concepts and skills. For example in case of elementary mathematics each student receives a certain number of exercises daily. These are automatically presented, evaluated and the result is stored by the program without any intervention of the class room teacher. Individualized drill and practice work is suitable for many elementary topics in mathematics, science and in foreign languages for spelling, typing and similar tasks.
b. Tutorial. The tutorial program, unlike the drill and practice approach, presents subject matter to students and conducts check on their progress directly. Such programs are available on CDs on different subjects and teach the students in such a way as if they are being taught by a teacher.
c. Dialogue. Dialogue is a complicated form of teaching in which the computer and the student carry on a conversation. The interaction between the student and the computer leads to the learning or understanding of a subject.
d. Testing. Computers are ideal test givers, particularly for matching, true or false and multiple choice tests. The answers to the questions are checked and the computer itself compiles result.
Computer Managed Instructions (CMI)
12. In a computer-managed instruction (CMI) system, instead of teaching the students directly, the computer assigns a student to read certain book, listen certain tape, and attend certain lecture and so on. On completing the assignment, the students return to the computer for testing and further assignment. A Computer Managed Instructions (CMI) has the following objectives:
a. The collection and processing of student’s information. (student’s background and interest, learning interest and educational achievements and so on).
b. Instructional information (instructional means available for teaching certain topics).
c. Passing of this information to the teacher in summarized form so that it can be used to help the students.
Computer Based Simulations
13. To simulate is to copy the behavior of one system with a different dissimilar system. Thus a computer can be programmed to behave like other system. Simulations is used when direct experimentation is not impossible (new system is not yet available), undesirable (for example simulated wars), uneconomical (for instance, a process requires large quantities of platinum but is not known to be profitable), immoral (for example, deals with intentional human death) or simply too slow ecology, forestry and so on)
A simulation model system implemented on a computer provides students with real life situations. In chemistry, simulation models have been developed to conduct experiments by simulating instruments and chemicals. In medicine, a student doctor can observe the workings of various body organs. In business, students can learn management techniques by operating a simulated business. By using simulated techniques, a physics student can even explode a simulated atomic reactor and watch the nuclear reaction in slow motion. A simulated model is usually a mathematical model of a real life system expressed in computer language. Most simulation models used for educational purposes are designed so that the student can enter control data into the model and a real life situation of a several weeks, months, or years can be simulated on a computer in seconds or minute.
Computer Aided Problem Solving
14. Students can use computers as problem solving tools. For that the students must learn how to develop a plan so that they could get the solution of their problem. Computer aided problem solving is the highest form of computer enhanced learning. In this learning activity, students explore and organize material from a course by using the computer as an aid to problem solving. Problem solving is a creative process. The student must understand the problem completely. The student must be able to select or develop a plan for a problem solution, and must be able to implement the problem solution in the form of a computer program.
Internet—a great source of Information and Education
15. Internet is a net of million computers that are connected together to share information and data. The people and organizations from all over the world place the information in their websites, which is freely available to all the internet users. Scholars, Intellectuals, Scientists, doctors and other people have maintained their websites, in which they place information and knowledge of their research work. If you need some material and information on any topic, then there is no need to search for the books, just login to the internet and search for that information, using different search engines. You will get it within no time.
Conclusion
16. Computer is a great friend of man. It is assisting us in all our day to day activities. It is a tireless servant. It has brought speed in our works. Most of our systems are dependent on computers. Truly speaking, we have become handicapped without computers. All processes and activities will stop if computers stop to function. They have made our life very comfortable and our most hectic jobs have become very easy. At the end I would say that the very nature of how we think, solve problems, process information and performs our jobs is now subject to the whims of an ever-changing technology. Millions who grew up in a world of paper and pencil will see them give way to key boards, hard disks, monitors, CDs and floppies, which in turn will give way to things that are yet to be imagined.
