Would anyone please suggest a remedy for a Newfoundland. The owner said
'everything' was removed and now the dog is dribbling it's urine. The dog is
loved and so the owners are not confining the animal to other quarters - she
is still allowed a full run of the house and carpets are getting a bit
smelly. The animal has placid nature.

Was the bladder removed? If so, all in the kidneys comes right out,
because there is no storage system.

Just as with people, you need to take a better case... one of my 3 Rottweilers developed Spay Incontinence 6 months
after the surgery... we took her case (my Homeopathic Vet & I) and she was started on LM01 of Pulsatilla... it took
a little time for its action to REALLY give us the results we were looking for BUT it did work wonders... she is
still an exceptionally sweet girl whose nickname is Kissy-Kissy & she is always begging for hugs & closeness but
then she gets too warm and she runs outside for the fresh breezes (we live on the water) so that should give you a
clue as to how we began the case and with a few other rubrics we then arrived at Pulsatilla... However this is not
necessarily the remedy that will work for "your" dog so ask the owners pertinent case-taking questions and you
should get some clues to work the case with wonderful results!

(and Julian - we never took Sulphur!!! LOL)

To Patti, Julian and all - The dog had a hysterectomy - there is a small
pinhole remaining in the bladder. She is 11 years old, bossy (and I thought
she was placid), snapping at the 3 other jet black Newfoundlands when food
arrives. She is described as being 'not laid back'. Likes to be where it is
warmer - even in mild weather she will stay indoors, company not being the
issue.

If this is how she has become since the hysterectomy then I would be
thinking about Staphysagria as a possibility.

I don't understand how a dog has a "pinhole remaining in the bladder" after
a hysterectomy and if there was, it would not cause incontinence. That must
be a misunderstanding on the part of the guardian. My experience with these
situations is a mixed bag. We are dealing with an amputation and homeopathy
never claimed to be able to "cure" amputations. One of the physiological
explanations is that estrogen stimulates production of neurotransmitter
receptors on the bladder. Estrogen "amputation" means fewer receptors to
receive nerve impulses thus less muscle tone. If the incontinence is due to:
1) the drop in estrogen, etc. from loss of ovaries and uterus, the only
hope that I see is if there is some ectopic ovarian tissue remaining or if
there is some other estrogen producing cells somewhere that can take up the
slack. This is not uncommon. In that case, perhaps homeopathy can help as
will time.

2) some other factor e.g. trauma, nerve injury, etc. then homeopathy has a
better chance. This is more likely if the incontinence was immediately or
very soon after surgery.

I have found some of these dogs do better with a raw ovary/uterus glandular
supplement but that is not homeopathy. These are probably the dogs without
enough estrogen production.

That being said, I would still look at chilly, dictatorial remedies that
look placid.
