Eleana has quoted the information I was alluding to. I think I saw it on
BBC online. I thought it very interesting. I seem to remember a statement
that this perversion of smell could predate onset of Schizophrenia Jean
The article appeared in the New Scientist issue of 8th November, titled
"Smell test for Schizophrenia" in the "In brief" section, p.16.

IT is known that people suffering from the disorder (schizophrenia) often
have trouble identifying smells - labelling the scent of pizza as that of an
orange, for instance, or the smell of bubblegum as smoke.
