Dear Joy and everyone else who has inputted into this case I have the answers to the questions you've asked.

Dark - Grandma says that the child stays at her house sometimes and the room is dark. She doesn't appear distressed by this.

Sweat - doesn't seem to sweat as she is always chilly or inclined to be cold.

Odour - only on breath if there is a mucousy infection. I looked for a smell when I help the child but there was only clean baby smell.

Loud noises - she reacts but not distressed. They put her to sleep in the MRI machine with ear muffs on but it was impossible to take clear photos because as the noise of the machine got louder and louder she did her usual moving her head from side too side but did not seem distressed.

Smells - she smells meals being cooked and gets excited as she likes her food.

Bathing - is happy in the bath

Yes Mum was on the pill prior to the pregnancy

The birth - more details. There was a delay of 15 mins when the brain damage was thought to have happened. Mum was being given more and more drugs by drip and the uterus was contracting but not relaxing. The child had to be resuscitated and had as she machines were completely flatlined. She was ventilated initially. She then started fitting because of the swelling of the brain and was put on phenobarbitone which was reduces over 6 weeks. In her first year she basically slept and ate. She has gradually become more awake and responsive over the last 2 years.

In a nutshell we have a child who developmentally is way behind and just getting her first teeth. The polarity is the precocious puberty and menses has not yet begun but she has pubic hair. She is basically unresponsive, seems happy and only cries if in pain which is not very often. She is plumpy, looks a very healthy child with strong healthy looking hair and nails,. She has this fairly constant basic sucking motion of her mouth and her eyes roll up. When she responds to a noise her hand goes from side to side which mum says is a way of seeing things with the visual impairment being from the brain.

Thanks for the rubric which could cover the early puberty.

Dear Rochelle, there are so many remedies to consider but I think it will be
one that combines the hormonal/glandular disturbance that has created the
precocious puberty (imo), i.e. she would have this condition regardless of
the cerebral palsy (as this seems to have been created by an appalling birth
procedure), as well as including the brain disorders (hopefully). A true
simillimum in this sense could do wonders for her. Either way I really think
that remedies will not touch the PP without that affinity. Does Clay have
that?

Dear Rochelle, I meant also to add that one rubric that I think you
could/should use is hypertrophy of breasts as this is becoming fact and is a
true sx.

It occurred to me that the problem with this child started when she could
not breath immediately after birth. There was that crucial moment when she
was not getting enough oxygen. Since that time, she still has trouble
getting enough air. If oxygen is what she was missing, oxygen is what she
should have!
On this basis, I prescribed Oxygenium C200.
These all sound like symptoms of the Oxygenium state. Is our society, in
general, moving more and more to the state of requiring Oxygenium? Are the
drugs and anaesthesia used during pregnancy and birth, especially Caesarean
sections, depriving infants of oxygen to the extent that the Oxygenium
state is produced? Interestingly, the pollution of our air has increased as
have these kinds of changes in society's values. Are we creating the
Oxygenium state in our culture as we alter the air, and therefore the
oxygen, we breath?

Can anyone make any comments about these in reference to this case. I am particularly interested in thr Ammonium Carb idea as this was suggested by someone privately. I have looked in a couple of MM and can;t find anything to back this up, so maybe it is a Clinical Proving.

I don't think this has anything to do with your complex case, but Borax is
one of the first Rx that comes to my mind in cases of oxygen deprivation at
birth as a result of trauma.

Vermeulen has an interesting observation in Prisma regarding one of Boron's
uses in modern technology...it is used as a trigger to inflate air bags!
In a birth that is proceeding (in a physiological sense) correctly the first
reflex action made by the baby when it slides through the birth canal is to
open the mouth and inflate the lungs.
That is why thrush abounds during the Borax state...it's an opportunistic
infection that thrives on lack of oxygen.

This is of little help in your present situation; however, for what it's
worth, I've had limited "success" with CP using Opium.

I've got Prism on the computer so will give it a read. Please tell us something about your limited success with Opium and CP. I had some success with Staph in a CP case years ago , as a student. Unfortunately the parents opted for Botulin injections which coincided with me becoming a Licensed practitioner and charging a proper price for consultations and I never saw him again as a patient. A couple of years later I did run into them - the botulin had reduced him from running around with a strange gait to only being able to crawl so when the effects wore off he was back where he started. He was an intelligent lad who wouldn't stick up for himself but walked away when he was bullied. After the Staph. he became confident and at school his work improved by leaps and bounds. His physiotherapist also reported at the time that his limbs were less rigid and she could work on them far easier.

With this child - the fact that she spent her first year asleep and in the last 2 years is beginning to respond and what with the tooth coming out at age 2 I just wonder if she is now coming alive as it were in which case Calc sounds a good Rx to start on. However there is no sweat, no fears , just a lack of reaction. I do realise Joy will come in with her usual moan at me that you don't have to have every symptom in the book but some things are like essential keynotes. I will continue my research and this is quite a learning opportunity which has been forced on me. Can anyone find a rubric for this near constant sucking reflex that she does?

I have a case at the moment of a 52yr old male who has had brain damage since birth with seizures. I suppose he has a kind of CP but is mentally the age of maybe 3 or 4yrs approx. He also has this constant sucking movement which I just used the rubric

MOUTH - MOTION - Tongue - constant
acon.;1;k acon.;1;vk1 aral.;1;vh clem.;1;k clem.;1;vk1 op.;1;k op.;1;vk1 stram.;1;k stram.;1;vk1

In this man's case, Stram is most likely his remedy based on some other key symptoms, which I will be giving him soon, however, I have been asked to treat him for some nutritional problems by his carers so am doing that as well.

Re the Calc keynotes you mention the little one doesn't have - don't forget that the keynotes tend to change with the presenting miasm - eg., you may find that profuse perspiration is more psoric and that the perspiration doesn't have to be profuse in the Tub or Sycotic phase of Calc. I remember doing up a chart once showing the different aspects for the different miasms, covering even the change in desires and aversions and the sensations of pain among other things.

Also, don't forget that if Calc does seem a possibility, then look at other remedies that come to mind with Calc such as Baryta and Silica, especially with nutritional and developmental anomalies and so does Sanicula which is a mixture of many salts.
You can keep Lyc in mind and Sulph as part of the triangle relationship and stages of disease
Syphlitic dimensions in Calc are not well marked unless joined with anions like Iodine or Fluroine. Other remedies to be considered could be Arg-n, Aur, Fluro-ac, Kali bich, and Kreos

Tub states - with repsiratory affections with maybe anxiety and weakness , think about Kali and Phos and even Stannum with progression of diseases.
Magnesium comes close to the physical effects of Calc especially the spasmodic and paretic effects - for the latter consider also Plumbum and Alumina

Don't forget with uterine and menstrual disorders (which are not really there at this point rather a problem with the hypothalamic - pituitary axis) to look at Nat, Sep and Lachesis

I suppose what I am saying is that there are many remedies that are useful when a Calc constitution is suspected, and it is a matter of using what comes at you for the aspect of the case you are wanting to impress upon. With complex cases like this it is always useful, as you would know, to prioritise a list of things to be addressed, and how this may be done. It is not likely that it will be just one remedy that is needed in a case like this.

If all the mother wants at this stage is to halt the precocious onset of puberty, then you need to find a remedy that will affect the endocrine function of the hypothal/pituitary. If you were able to impact on that, you may be inundated with new clients - as this seems to be common problem caused by lesions to the H/P axis.

OPIUM IS A PRE-EMINENT Rx FOR LACK OF REACTION.
SOME SORT OF TRAUMA AT THE BIRTH POSSIBLY RESULTED IN HER NOT COMING FULLY
INTO HER BODY; SHE HASN'T BEEN GROUNDED FULLY IN THE EARTH PLANE.

THERE IS A SPLIT...SHE WANTS TO STAY A BABY(SLOW TO TEETHE WANTING STILL TO
"SUCK" WHICH IS REALLY WHAT THE CIRCUM-ORO MOTIONS ARE ABOUT;
WELL-DOCUMENTED IN ANIMAL STUDIES BUT NOT IN HUMAN STUDIES AND OUR REPS ARE
LACKING HERE AS LAC-H IS THE MAIN Rx FOR THIS IN MOST INSTANCES ) BUT IS
FORCING SOMEHOW A PRECOCIOUS PUBERTY TO ACCELERATE HER TIME HERE SO SHE CAN

I AGREE THAT CALC IS CLOSE AND WILL PROBABLY FOLLOW THE OPIUM. IF YOU DECIDE
TO TRY IT AND IT GROUNDS HER.
