SENSITIVE TO NOISE
So important is the rubric 'sensitive to noise' to the remedies ASARUM,
COFFEA and THERIDION that it is worth making a comparison of these 3
remedies. There are other remedies which appear in that rubric but these
make a succinct group.
ASARUM EUROPAEUM - european snake root
The plant is vigorous, evergreen, prostrate and a rhizomatous perennial,
with large kidney or heart shaped leathery, glossy leaves. Likes shade and
moisture. Part of the Aristolochia group. Has a history of being used as an
emetic and in head colds for promoting sneezing. Although I do not have
documentation to confirm, I believe some Indian tribes might have used the
decoction as a stimulating force, to heighten the nerves.
The leading state of this remedy is the hypersensitivity it arouses of the
nerves, especially centred on noise - whether it be distant clocks, bells,
scratching on materials or paper, almost anything, - this is all unbearable.
Even thinking about the noise is enough to make them shiver. This is 'the
chalk scratching on the blackboard scenario' but 100 times worse. It makes
them shiver intensely with a cold feeling. This sensation travels through
the body and creates a feeling of lightness in the limbs, as though
floating. A real sense of levitation.
But this nervous irritation can show itself anywhere throughout the body -
not just to noise. In reality it is unlikely that a client would present
with 'oversensitive to noise' as the main ailment, it is the sort of
condition that comes out through case taking - even if it is some ear
problem that they present with, which is much more likely, e.g. nervous
deafness. But they might present with a nervous cough, or dizziness and
vertigo with a sense of floating.
There is a great sensation that parts are being pressed together. In the
mind this comes as if the thoughts are vanishing, being pressed out of them.
They have this feeling of being stupid and light headed (all been pressed
out). If you literally picture the head being pressed from both sides then
the ears end up being side by side - this is my metaphor for the increase in
sensitivity of the hearing!! There is also a sensation as if the skin is
stretched.
This pressure can also be felt anywhere - the chest, lungs, back, abdomen,
uterus ('threatened abortion from excessive sensibility').
Coldness is another distinguishing feature. Always feel cold but like the
feeling of cold water on the body. Always >> damp
weather (the plant likes this also).
COFFEA CRUDA (and Tosta?) - unroasted and roasted coffee
Well known as a stimulant and increasing the sensibility of the nerves,
especially on the emotional plane - it can render someone so acutely tuned
into feeling pleasure that all sense of danger is lost.
But mostly there is a state of hyperactivity accompanied by a deep sense of
being conscientious about the job at hand. This is so strong that when
things go wrong for them they feel it extremely because they are intolerant
of any pain, whether it be emotional or physical. Also intolerant of noise
and smells - anything that stimulates them even more. There is a suddeness
about the onset of symptoms, the reaction will be swift. Sympathy, on the
other hand, is not an emotion they respond to favourably, perhaps because it
'softens' their experience, and also because the feeling of sympathy is too
much for them. When people actually crave coffee they really want to be
stimulated and not comforted.
Noise especially is really painful to them. Not only is the hearing acute
but they amplify sounds. And just like a liud speaker can becomes distorted
if the sound levels are too high then the hearing of Coffea can become
distorted and buzzing to the extent that they might complain of hardness of
hearing.
Just Like Asarum this sensitivity is felt throughout the whole system
preventing sleep; the skin becomes painfully sensitive; the genitals become
so sensitive as to create an aversion to sex; the heart palpitates; limbs
twitch and tremble; nose and smell so sensitive it causes nosebleeds; eats
hurriedly as if greedy - always greedy for stimulation but intolerant of the
effects, which, in turn, tends to make them feel isolated, to cut themselves
off from too much stimulation. There are a number of fears and delusions of
this remedy but overall the emphasis is on cheerfulness and pleasure.
THERIDION CURASSAVICUM - the orange spider (found on orange trees in the
west indies and there are also orange spots on the body)
A highly poisonous spider which produces extreme nervousness, trembling and
weakness. This nervousness also sets up a hyperactivity, a busyness - like
Coffea, but it doesn't achieve anything. As Sankaran says "a fruitless
activity" - no pun intended!
It has a lot in common with the other spider remedies - movement, music,
dancing, attracted to bright colours, the ominous connection with the male
sex, the need to be attractive; sensation as if things alive in body
somewhere; a threat of society (persecuted as spiders are); generally
preferring their own company.
I always think of vibrations when I consider the spider remedies - the
spindly but incredibly sensitive legs, all 8 of them, lend themselves to the
sensitivity of noise quite profoundly. Noise penetrates the whole body,
mainly through the teeth. Being motionless (as spiders often are) is about
the only state that allows them some relief from this.
Like Coffea there is this strange ability to be cheerful and boisterous. I
say strange because this might not be apparent during consultations -
careful questioning brings this out.
Where there is intense sensitivity to noise there is nearly always headaches
or migraines. With this remedy it is < after stool; cannot lie down with
head pain; might even be cheerful during the pain; and the most strange sx
is 'delusion head belongs to another.' This might be clarified in their work
- acting; mimics; clowns; people who do many different jobs (mixing their
allegiances); etc.
Like the legs of the spider which are so sensitive to vibrations there are a
number of other peculiar sx which surround the limbs - coughing causes the
body to jerk and force the knees upwards; lies with legs crossed and cannot
uncross them; as if bones were broken and would fall asunder; motion always
<<< + sea sickness is pronounced; easy spinal irritation; and lots of decay
and necrosis of the bones in limbs.
Best wishes, Joy

Any ideas on remedies which would have a symptom of anger caused by
noise? Not sharp, short noises, but extended noise such as radio or
TV on too loud, or several people talking too loud, or loud
traffic/city noise or cacaphonious kid noise. The anger dissipates
as
soon as the noise stops. More than just dislike of noise.
