sooty and sweep

You wouldn't want to visit us at home at present - extensive renovations
have included a chimney breast being taken down exposing over 100 years of
soot which permeated everywhere and everything and took an age to sweep
away. These have been anxious and stressful times and I was sure that one of
us would succumb. It just happened to be me.
Symptoms began with waking frequently with pains in both hands, they were
also clenched, pains mainly around the lower thumb joint and there were lots
of 'pins and needles'. Then a really sore and inflamed throat, > really cold and slightly acid juice.
Tongue was whitish. Nose was runny. There was also restlessness, weakness,
generally feeling cold but there was a great deal of burning heat in the
throat and head. I was also extremely irritable (well more than normal
anyway
). At first I thought this was a bad cold but was concerned about
the pain in the hands.
Meandering through the materia medicas, passing time whilst trying to think
of what to take, if anything, I lingered on Carboneum and I was amazed with
the similarity between me and it - Carboneum being lamp black, the carbon
obtained from a coil-oil lamp. It was the chimney soot which was probably
making me sick.
I will leave you to read up on this remedy, if you are interested. There is
little on the mental or emotional spheres and the provings have only been
conducted in the very lowest potencies. Generally, I would place this remedy
in the acute category.
But there is a fascinating disease development with this remedy and
fortunately I am recovering without intervention or further intensity of
symptoms.
The chain is - sore throat, spasms, tetanus, convulsions. Being a spasmodic
remedy it has a 15 minute periodicity, is active at 4 a.m. and 2 p.m. and
other symptoms develop after 2, 3, 4 and up to 8 days. It passes from the
mouth to the throat on to the heart, stomach, bowels and spreads out to the
skin.
Inevitably one should compare all the other carbons (and there are many) and
other related remedies - Clarke suggests Nux vom, Aethusa and Oenanthe.
Unusual, but connected delusions within the Carbon group are all about
change. Delusions are strange, horrible, thinks everything is changed or
changing. Ranging from delusions of grandeur (carb sulph) to delusions they
are about to sink into annihilation (carb hydrog), I think it would be
interesting for someone to begin a new proving of Carboneum to elicit some
reliable mental and emotional symptoms.
Apart from that, this is probably a very underused remedy and I think its
true value and application might lie in ailments arising from toxic and
heavily polluted environments.
