Dear Joy

Thank you for this nice question which I enjoyed reading and thinking about.

Many questions arise.
Primarily, how will I find he is sterile and 'happy' with it?

If he is happy with his sterility, is he likely to tell me?

How do I find out if s/he is 'Happy' with it? and What does 'Happy' mean.
Does it mean they want to be Sterile? or
Are resigned to be Sterile?

Many other questions arise:
Was the person made sterile by some procedure, or is as a result of an
accident or disease?
How do we know they are sterile? Have they had tests? - Unusual if they are
'happy' with it!
Or is it that they have been trying to have a bay and nothing has happened.
So are they sterile or their partner.
If they have been trying to have a baby, then how come they are 'happy' with
their sterility.

What about their partner? Is S/He happy with it or giving them grief.

If they bring up the subject (I am unlikely to do so - do not forget I am
supposed to be an unprejudiced observer) then obviously something is quite
not right with this 'happiness' which you mention.

But if it is a real issue obviously it will be a point of discussion and I
would try and understand how it impacts on this particular patient.

My job as a homoeopath is to ensure that the VF is able to rule the body
with absolute authority and to enable the person to achieve the highest
purposes of their existence. If in time it means that their sterility is
over, who am I to argue?

Lastly, what is this about protocols? Having a Protocol means reacting to
something in a rigid manner - as Homoeopathy is dynamic, we need to react in
a dynamic manner and to treat the individual and not their sterility or
whatever.

So what would be your protocol if a client came to you, who just happened to
be sterile and was perfectly happy with that and their presenting complaint
was something unrelated. What ranking would you give the fact that this
person was sterile, (e.g. let's say this client is male). What part would it
play in the case? How would you approach the subject? And, if you prescribed
with this in mind, and the outcome was that you reversed the sterility, what
would your position be on that?

But you know, I think this sort of situation is not so unusual -- where a
change that *we* would recognize as in direction of health, and perhaps
necessary, might be seen as a problem to the patient or their associates --
return of undesired fertility could be one example, another could be the
co-dependent who "grows a spine", the depressed person whose rage has to
come out before they can let it to, and there are *many* possible examples.

I think, Soroush, that if you *didn't* talk about this issue with your
sterile patient -- regardless of how "happy" they were or were not with it,
and regardless of whether or not they brought up the topic -- you would be
very, very remiss!!!! Don't you agree?

I think you need to stretch your mind as to how one might find out they are
sterile, medical history, previous partners, curiosity, donors, etc.

I really do not think that being an unprejudiced observer means that you
don't ask any questions - that concerns me more than the initial purpose of
this discussion. Do you really mean that you don't ask any questions during
the case taking?

One's own protocol should never be rigid, it is about negotiation - case
management, in other words.

I hope you linger a lot longer on these issues.

Answer to : finrod@webstar.co.uk/happy with being sterile : well, being happy
with the status of sterility might be a first hint to Sepia in theory and,
often also in day-to-day practice. Usually in couples with no kids, which are
married for 15-20 years and the relation has been sound in its core ( no other
affairs in between. same life interests basically ), the women could be Sepia -
I am not saying she IS Sepia, but it is a good hint to this remedy or
something close. There are 5 subgroups in Sepia itself, so the picture is very wide -
it is a polychrest with many possible satellites like Ph, I, Na-mur, to name
just a few. In men, Sepia is seldom, so in children.
