As head of a support organization for kidney patients, I often have the opportunity to recommend alternative medicine (viz., homeopathy) to people. I tell them, first, to go to the Council for Homeopathic Certification website or the North American Society of Homeopaths website. After they find a homeopath near them (or more than one, if they're lucky), they can then go to the National Center for Homeopathy website and check out the affiliated study groups listing. In addition to being good places for the uninitiated to learn more about homeopathy, the study groups are also nice sources of word-of-mouth on local homeopaths one may be considering.

You'd do similar legwork to find a good nephrologist, wouldn't you?
