Here is one I posted on another list last week!!

I had a phone call today , child age 2 with a fever, crying didn't want to be disturbed but lying on a chair next to mother, hot but wanted to throw the covers off, pain in stomach, flatulence, possibly constipated, draws knees up, thirstless.
I prescribed a remedy and had an email later this evening:-

From Praful Vijaykar's chart of acutes , the following
axis is seen.
Dull,hot, thirstless: Sulphur,lyc,apis,merc,bry,nat m.
Further eliminating: Constipated, wants someone near
,And flatulence . Lyc ?

No guessing.

Rubrics:
stomach, pain, general, drawing up limbs amel
Stomach thirstlessness heat,during
Fever, heat uncovering, desire for

All lead to Bryonia-- which also does not like to be disturbed.

Many years ago, I came into my office at school to find a student
lying on the file cabinets. He seemed to be in pain. I asked if I
could help and he said, "No. I have this stomach thing that comes
every few months. I just need to lie quietly. It goes away in about
an hour. If you want to help, I'd like a big glass of ice-water."
I got him the water.
He sat up, holding his side, and gulped it down.
I asked, "Where does it hurt?" ad he pointed to his left side just
under the ribs. This was NOT his stomach. But it was the side he was
lying on.
I asked him if he'd accept some help, and he said "sure."

Thirsty for large gulps of cold water
Lies on painful side
Does not want to be disturbed
Worse from movement.

A single dose of Bryonia 30 had him up in ten minutes. "Gee, it
didn't last too long this time," he said.

About 4 years later, I bumped into him at a design conference. I
asked him if he remembered that incident. He told me he did and that
since then he had not had a single attack of whatever it was--
although he had them regularly every few months for a few years.

Thanks Julian, Ventkat, Marie !!! It wasn't Bryonia as no way did Mum say
that the child was < movement only that she wanted to lie close to her but
was not clingy like Puls would be.

I took 4 rubrics,
Flatulence obstructed,
Thirstlessness during fever,
Constipation in children
Covers kicks off.

Only 1 remedy comes through all 4 rubrics and that is Chamomilla which cured
the case with 1 dose of 6x. This fit the case because the child didn't want
to be disturbed but wanted to lay near mum.

I learnt something here as I didn't know that Cham. was in the rubric
constipation as I always associate it with green diarrhoea during
teething!!!

While one cannot deny the result, I believe that the rubrics selected
when compared with the case *as presented* are a bit of a leap.

"possibly constipated" does not equal "Constipation in children"
nor does "flatulence" equal "Flatulence obstructed."

If this case were presented, as is, to our students in Wellington,
and they suggested the rubrics just mentioned, we would ask, "How did
you get that? Where does it say that?"

If one takes the rubrics:

Uncovering, desire for
Pain, Stomach, drawing up limbs amel
Stomach, pain, general
Rectum, flatus
Thirtstlessness during fever
Aversion to being disturbed

Bryonia comes up in first place (11/6) with Chamomilla in third (9/5)

If we remove "Pain, Stomach, drawing up limbs amel" and substitute
"Stomach, pain, bending double, amel."

Chamomilla comes up 9/6 followed by a bunch of others (Mur. ac,
Coloc, Chel., Sulph, etc.) until we get to Bryonia in place 15.
Bryonia , while it has pain > drawing up knees, it does NOT have
Pain > bending double.

Very interesting, eh? (I'm using The Complete Rep. 4.5)

So it all hinges on selecting the exact rubric. If you eliminate both
the bending double and drawing knees up, you get both Cham. and
Bryonia, and a bunch of other to differentiate.

We don't have the alternate universe machine to let us go back and
try a different remedy to see if that was "close enough" to give
relief.

As for the try of Lycopodium... it has the general stomach pain, and
the flatus. It has uncovering, and Thirstlessness (both as a "1"),
but does not have aversion to being disturbed.
One thing we can possible learn from the suggestion of Lycopodium is
that thinking of Keynotes for "acute, stomach" does not get you in
the ballpark. This is the problem with "keynote" prescribing--
narrowing down to something known, rather than sorting out the case.

I admit that maybe from Mum over the phone I got the impression that she thought that the flatulence was causing the pain and I would have made the leap Constipation in children because it was a possible causation. One thing I have to ask you is, where in the Complete - and I have the Millennium Edition is Thirstless(ness) during fever? I have both Cara and the new ISIS and can only find this rubric in Murphy or Boerike? Is it in the hard copy and not searchable on the computer?
Welcome aboard I like your challenges!!! (Incidentally Lycopodium is a Rx that has worked very well on Mum in the past!!)

Dear Rochelle, Thirstless during fever is quite a large rubric, easily found
in the Food section, and there is also, in Fevers, the rubric, thirst absent
with fever, also Fever with little thirst, and fever with or without thirst
- which are all related.

It is best to go back to the good old books sometimes )

Lyc is not in Thrstlessness during fever. This
thirstlessness Praful talks about is when the pt feels
hot- when he cannot tolerate heat- e.g. throwing
covers off. This is a srp sx. In every repertory you
may find cold agg,amel,becoming agg etc but not this.

This is more than a keynote which Julian thinks. You
wanted a guess and Julian jumped into it. I zeroed
from eight. May be the words stomach centred acutes
made him say that. Praful says his chart will work
70%. I use it when giving an off hand Rx. When srp are
present, I go for it. There is one more elimination
strategy he gives; when hot,thirstless,dry lips,mouth-
bry,lyc.

Your case wasn't bry. As for Boger's(heat &fever)
concommittants
peevish(cham,lyc are there)
abdominal pain: 4cham,lyc
tirstless: cham
flatulent symtoms;both are not represented

may i make a suggestion ? Why is there no one who gives some other symptons
related to this, what is felt in the neck, is the skull normal, how did
delivering work out, long-short, heavy baby or not, what are the childs food
habits and drinking habits, is there anyone who has checked the iris ? is
there a slight colouring in the iris around the pupil ? is the child making
movements or is it completely calm ? is this the first time you saw the
child ? is there a history of the child ? i ask those questions because i
have also notice about osteopathy, cranio sacral therapy, iriscopy and
radiestesy, specialized in electromagnetic field elemination, and studying
food allergy by the system develloped by Mark Elzen.

another suggestion can be argentum nitricum.
