I have seen another group do exactly what you are describing and they did not go thru Yahoo as I understand it.

They wound up becoming part of another group on Io. My vote is go for it asap.

I apologize but my head is spinning on this transfer information.
Correct me if I am wrong--both you and Barbara are talking about the same thing?

I vote an enthusiastic yes! Peter, thank you very much for your offer. What needs to happen for us to move ahead?

What does this mean in terms of $$$?

I am very upset about this as I have been ringing this bell for weeks now.

Who gave you the access codes?

Hi Peter
1) io groups do not accept transfers anymore, that door is closed
2) The only moderator of the Minutus yahoo group had - according to him - until recently very little "powers".
3) The owner of the Minutus yahoo group has been absent for a number of years. Due to the political situation in his home country, it has been difficult to reach him.
4) The only Moderator of the yahoo group was able to eventually get in touch with the owner and given access to the group and permission to do what he felt was right.
5) All attempts to get the only Moderator to take the lead and help secure the archive, give suggestions about the future of the group have had no response.
6) The only Moderator of the yahoo group did ask for help, but - as far as I know - has not taken up any offers of help.
7) Then I saw week after week pass with no action, I started a group with io. https://groups.io/g/Minutus. Although I am the owner, I have always made it very clear, that I will pass ownership on to somebody who is well respected in the Minutus group with the offer to stay on as moderator for the time being as I have almost 2 years of experience with io groups, as owner of several groups, moderator and member.
8) We already have several downloads of the archive, personally I have a yahoo download (no idea if complete) and a PG Offline download. It is not known if Mark Fletcher from io groups will eventually import yahoo downloads into an io group (and if yes, probably for $220). He is on vacation for the next 3 weeks, so nothing new will happen with io groups until he is back. The new PG Offline 2 program (developed to upload yahoo group messages into io groups) has just finished its beta testing. I have been in conversation with the owner of the program. To get the licence and upload the almost 110.000 messages into a sub group would come to $150 (however, if somebody went through the messages, that price could probably come down if all "test", spam etc messages were deleted first).
9) Unfortunately PG Offline is not able to download a memberlist. Also the yahoo download will only provide a memberlist for owners and moderators. I am quite sure that very many of the 3377 members in the yahoo group have ceased to be active years ago already. There seems to have been done very little maintenance in the group and of course yahoo groups have had severe problems for a number of years, e.g. the bouncing, unsubscribing etc has hardly worked especially since they neonized the groups.

Ouch, but Peter I am SO glad you’ve done your own download of it!!
How much does the developer need? I’m sure we’ll raise the amount, let us know, and—thank you again!!!

I've collected 165 minutus member email addresses from people who were
active posters of one or more (sometimes many more) messages between
1-1-2017 and 16-12-2019 on the Yahoo Minutus list.

As has been said in various messages, several people from the Yahoo
Minutus list have downloaded the (nearly) complete Yahoo message history
via PG4, or the even more complete download via the Yahoo feature.

The/my PG4 download is zipped in a .7 file of 63 MB and holds the
messages as .html, up until 28-10-2019, in about 2100 .html files, each
holding 50 messages.

I haven't had a good look at the complete download via the Yahoo
feature, but the Minutus part (as I have it) is a 234 MB zipped file.

Upon a closer look, I see the Minutus download via the Yahoo feature
holds all messages in .mbox format, that is, each mail send is saved
with full headers etc.
I'd say that for practical use, the headers are confusing and a waste of
space.

Hi Ginny,
Frankly this isn't an area where I've managed (or tried, really) to=20
keep it all straight, but--
My remark was based on what every opthomologist I see (I am very=20
nearsighed) keeps telling me--and I googled up this:

www.sightwise.org/

"5% of very nearsighted people (over 6 Diopter correction) will=20
experience a retinal detachment in their lifetime.

40 to 50 % of retinal detachment patients are nearsighted/shortsighted=20
(myopic).

Click here to see this reference paper

Your risk of detached retina increases:
1.If you are very nearsighted. ... "

My understanding always had to do with an elongated eyeball, but I'm=20=20
not going to google that just now. :-)

Best wishes,
Shannon

For my own convenience, my computer is busy producing a (virtually)
message-only .doc version of all previous Yahoo Minutus messages (up
until 28-10-2019) but it will take a while to have this done. I’ll keep
you posted (and I wouldn’t mind if someone beats me doing this).

Thank you for your efforts. I hope all this will settle out with our
messages and membership intact.

But that will only happen if all members are uploaded into the new program.
