taro/cortisone question

A tangential question re the taro poisoning: Because the respiratory
trouble was so intense and did not improve during the first night, her
doctor put her on cortisone. Her report on the effectiveness is, First day
on a full dose cortisone it eased the lung stuff fairly well, but by late
that night it wasn't working any more. The morning dose eased it for half
an hour or so, then didn't do much. Rapidly decreasing effectiveness.
Actually feels like the respiratory stuff has gotten worse, not better.
More pain, more difficulty breathing.

Her doctor now wants her to go onto a stronger dose of cortisone, but her
friend questions why they want to give her more of something that appears
not to be working. Can anyone (esp. MDs) offer thoughts on that? (If I can
get her a working remedy, and quickly enough, the question will be moot, but
I'm feeling a little lost so far... She's supposed to try Arnica -- which
seems to fit a lot of both her physical and mental sxs -- but she hasn't
yet, I don't know why.)

Doesn't it seem odd that cortisone would fail to relieve inflammation?
Maybe this indicates the cause is more emotional than physical???
