I know that Puls is in various rubrics having to do with irritability and
etc., but I'm wondering whether someone needing puls could present with that
as a *main* and longstanding feature -- without any of the "April day"
changeability, but an irritable, tense, hurried, impatient, haughty,
critical (I would even say contemptuous). He (70-ish, retired) can also be
sweet and funny (tho the tension in him is palpable, even when he's in good
mood and on good behavior!), has close friends, donates his legal expertise
to charity causes, and is a good papa etc.; but the above stuff is sort of
his nemesis. Puls keeps coming up as a possibility and I keep going
"naaahhh...", but none of the more reasonable-seeming choices (nux-v, lyc,
verat and ??) have worked out, argh...

Current chief complaint is "benign prostatic hyperplasia", gets up as much
as 5 times per night to urinate; but his wife's chief complaint is all of
the aforementioned!

Mainly, tho, I'm wondering whether I can eliminate Puls, or not yet -- any
thoughts?

What about other key notes of Puls like desires open air in a closed room and the thirstlessness. It's in the Complete rep as black type for prostate enlargement and frequent urination at night as italics but not for frequent urination day and night. Is there dribbling , feeble stream or any other features? He should be taking high dose Zinc and possibly Sabal Ser. in a herbal tincture or MT. I take it he gets his PSA levels tested regularly.

Do not confuse/mix up this patients 'basics' and his actual complaint. He
may need 'this' for now, and (eventually) something else for 'underneath'
(hmm..

Considering the other choices you might have I would aside the idea of Puls
for this case. I would also concentrate on the prostate condition and the sx
picture around this, as well as the M/E sx. Have a look at Sabal -
impatient, doesn't want sympathy (exact opposite of Puls!!), has bouts of
irritability and depression, quite self centred on their own condition - as
well as frequent urination at night due to enlarged and dysfunctional
prostate.

I'll try to follow thru on that more. We've tried sabal and also a couple
of other more specific remedies, with no result whatever, but I'm not sure
my casetaking has been very thorough, so I'll try again.
