rochelle's problem case- today

Here is the follow up I took today. I didn't prescribe because he only finished the steroids on Saturday. I gave him some Crateagus herbal tincture to tone up the heart and hopefully to get him off allopathic medication.he is taking a HBP pill - doesn't know the name, A calcium channel blocker Tildiem and his Provastin (for high cholesterol) has been changed to Atorvastin as the former has itchy skin in the side effects. He says that he doesn't have HBP or high cholesterol but has been to told to stay on these of the steroids raise the BP and the others are because of the angioplasty. He has done a deal with his GP to come off the HBP ones if his BP is still normal when he goes there in 3 weeks.

The follow up.
After he took the Carc 200 he felt good the next day but the following day "I started to go downhill rapidly. I was delirious with a little bit of a temperature. The doctor on call wouldn't come out but faxed me a prescription to Tesco Pharmacy for antibiotics. At 3am I thought I was having a heart attack. I was taken to hospital in an ambulance and they wanted to discharge me because my heart was fine. I refused and said that I was not leaving until they get this infection sorted. I was covered from head to foot in eczema as if my skin was standing on end as it was flaking off. When they did a biopsy on it the results came back that it was eczema. I was so itchy in hospital that I had 5 baths a day as the only time I felt normal was when I was in a hot bath. (Not Sulphur!!) They did lots of tests which sad that although the normal infection rate is 11 mine was 112!! The eczema is a result of the infection. When I have these flare ups, I've have them every 4-5 weeks (He will check with his GP exactly the dates as I want to see if there is a periodicity) it is usually my ears that flare up or my ankles swell up. I do get a bit of the eczema but never to the extent that the remedy brought out. The remedy threw out all the eczema. The fever came on with such ferocity this time. My mind went to hell. I was talking to my dead brother and father. I was close to my parents. My dad was a cautious man but I am not. With the fever one moment I would be OK and then back to the delirium."
The sour smell about him that he has during an infection was the worst it had ever been with this particular infection.
Again I couldn't really see much. He has a tanned mottled skin which is a bit rough. It appears that the original blisters that came up and popped with a clear liquid coming out in about 4 hours, left a crystalline ridge and it was this that developed into the eczema which he had never had before the Bermuda incident. The tan and the mottled colour is from the UV sun bed treatments.
He is still waiting for the results of parasite tests that he has insisted on. He was discharged from hospital after the infection rate went down to 11.8 and only left then because a nurse had said that he would be better off waiting for the test results at home because a few weeks ago there was an outbreak of scabies on the ward!! He didn't want to leave until the doctors had got to the bottom of the cause of these continuing infection flare ups.
Timeline
Feb 2002 - hundreds of tiny warts developed all over his feet. He was not anxious about them. Some blue stuff was painted on them which apparently was the latest treatment. The biopsy was ordered by his GP and 4 warts were removed at different times. None of them were showed to be anything but warts. The last one was removed for testing before he went to Bermuda in March 02 before the biopsy wound had healed up. After he went swimming these blisters started appearing which burst and left what looked like a crystallized rim of a volcano. "There were hundreds of them in 4 hours and I left a trail of clear liquid as they popped. I had massive injections of antibiotics at a local clinic + a cream to apply that no one had heard of when I returned to my doctor. This stopped the blistered from coming up and over the next few weeks I got the odd one coming up. The blisters left the itchy eczema. I was given steroid creams and everything and in May 03 I was started on 50 sessions, 3 sessions a week of UVA sun bed treatment."
At all times since the initial infection the eczema has been ongoing being more itchy when he was stressed. "When the stress was gone it was less itchy". By stress he meant to do with the fact that he couldn't work because of the blisters, fevers, ear infections etc. The stress went when he was given a good redundancy package (at age 59) rather than being given the sack.
Today he looks well but with a fat face probably caused by the 20 day course if steroids which was finished on Saturday. His left ankle was swollen and it only 9 a.m. He also has a feeling in his ears of itchiness and they feel a little tender to touch on the outside. His skin is not itching at the moment. "It feels as if the infection is on its way back but it's not as it would have been here by now." His weak point as a child was ears and tonsils.
The cracked sore feet he has had he blames on the UV treatment. Apparently he was given and used strips of tape which were impregnated with steroids to stick on the places which had the worst splits.
"My anxiety level about my health has always been high because of people depending on like my Mum and wife. When my father died and I got to the house everyone was sat down waiting for me to take over and organise everything. It has always been like that. Everyone relies on me. I worry about what would happen to others if anything happens to me. I do tend to take over but in a nice way. I want to be in the centre of things. I am a doer. Everyone asks me for help.
