Hi Cinnabar,

This sounds like an interesting possibility for a child I'm having trouble
prescribing for. (I'd tried Bell. some time back, but no luck, and he is
chilly.)

I'm curious whether you (and others) have thoughts about this write-up of
Borland's? He seems to say that Caps children will be slow and heavy -- the
child I'm looking for is quite slim, and rather quick and nervous. Would
you say that contraindicates, or not necessarily?

From Borland's *Children's Types*:
The typical Capsicum child is again a fat, rather lazy, somewhat
obstinate child who is definitely very clumsy in his movements - I have
never seen a neat Capsicum child. Mostly they have rather reddish cheeks,
but that is not constant; they may be pale and flush up more than a
Graphites child.
They tend to be very forgetful. They will be sent on an errand, and
will come back without what they have been sent to get. It is partly lack of
attention. They are always touchy, easily offended, easily irritated.
An odd feature in Capsicum children is a strange dislike of being away
from home. I think it is partly their feeling that they are not appreciated,
partly their touchiness, and partly laziness - they have to make an effort
if they are away from home, they have to be more pr less agreeable and at
home they are often quite unpleasant.
The Capsicum children are always rather dull; they are slow at learning
in school, and their memories are poor.

the fire of the capsicum evoked. There is a sensation as if parts have gone
to sleep. It is related to Bell, same family? Borland groups it with
Graphites and Nat mur is the chronic of Capsicum.

But - there is a more excited state - anger, anxiety, critical, disobedient,
fear, hurried, they kiss people a lot, can be malicious, have alternating
moods, can be impulsive and rash in their actions (can be suicidal).

Perhaps the teenage Capsicum, living away from home (and suffering terribly
from this), having problems at University.

I wonder how many Capsicum kids Borland saw when he wrote that? My notes say, inter alia, "iight hair, blue eyes, nervous but phlegmatic diathesis." I've seen one boy who fit that to a T, and I would think Capsicum's awkwardness and tendency to bump into things suggests someone who's no slug. (This boy was also very accident-prone; it's the physical counterpart to the remedy's proclivity for reacting without thinking first. He was also given Belladonna with no benefit.)

Frankly, I never pay all that much attention to physical types unless they're REALLY strongly indicative of the remedy -- and that seems truer, at least to me, of mineral remedies than plant ones. I wouldn't rule a remedy out on the basis of physical type.

My my my, perhaps capsicum will have to be my next stop. What you've
written below fits my guy to a T as well! "Nervous but phlegmatic" indeed,
the coloring, and it is *bizarre* the way he can literally walk into doors
-- but God help ya if you laugh! And the cycle you posted seemed to fit
nicely.
