A case from Massimo Mangialavori:

Anna, a thirty-four-year-old schoolteacher, had already followed a
homeopathic treatment without avail, and had stopped a 'short' psychotherapy
treatment (from the Centre of Mental Hygiene in the city where she lived)
that she reported as not having worked.
She appeared to be depressed, looked almost ten years older than she
was, was dressed sloppily and suffered from a bad case of halitosis.
It took a while to get a conversation going.
She told me:
'This is my third attempt with homeopathic therapy: I've already taken
ARNICA, CIMICIFUGA, LYCOPODIUM and SEPIA, the latter for almost a year
without the least results, but I am somebody who persists, I am convinced
that my problem is mostly of an organic nature.
I started to undergo psychotherapy in order to assure myself that I did
not have other problems. but all that happened is that I became very
dissatisfied with the level of assistance from the centre I went to.
Each time I was examined by someone else, who only listened and then
prescribed a medicine.
I asked what urged her to continue to try homeopathy:
'They told me you are very good. it is my last try.'
I told her that I only partially agreed to accept such a large
responsibility if she did not feel like cooperating:
'I am prepared to, I am very strong. '
I asked when her problems started:
'Until two years ago I was doing very well.
For years, I have wanted a true partner and a child.
I did everything for it, even though I was no longer very young.
I undertook a homeopathic eugenetic therapy, then I visited one of the
best homeopathic doctors in my home town, I prepared for a natural birth.
(she started to cry). after nine months of pregnancy everything crashed. '
I let Anna cry, and offered her a glass of water:
'I could not give birth to the child, the opening of the uterus was
extremely painful, they suddenly had to perform an operation because of a
ruptured uterus. I had a serious haemorrhage and I lost the baby. it was
already weak and she would not have made it, they told me. it seems the baby
already had a malformed heart leading to an missing rectum.
I asked how her periods were going before the intervention:
'I have always had problems with my periods.
I never had a regular period, it was always painful and very abundant
and full of clots.
I had serious pains in my uterus, and then throughout my abdomen and
down to my thighs.
Often the pains extended to my back and hips.
For year I suffered a bad back, with terrible and unbearable pain.
Then I could never take a bath when I had my period. it would became
even more painful, especially when I bathed my legs and feet.
I asked her to explain this:
I am very chilly. when I bathed my feet, instead of stopping, as
happened to my friends, the pain became even more intense.'
I asked what sort of mood she was usually in:
'I have no mood anymore.
I asked how she usually spent her days:
'I don't know. they pass. they pass while I am there. sometimes I don't
even know what day it is.
I asked how the back ache was:
'Bad. I feel the worst pain in my sacrum when I sit down, I cannot
remain seated for long.'
Having said this, she went to the window and started to cry, silently.
