Being a '50's baby I, (along with many others of my generation) was given
cod liver oil on a regular basis. I can still taste it now - yuk. It was
seen as a nutrient and was ladled out by the newly formed NHS to post war
babies and children to boost their resistance to ill health from lack of
nourishment and the prevalence of tuberculosis.
Oleum jecoris aselli has an affinity to the liver, pancreas and tendons (no
wonder I developed gall stones in my 20's). Also as above - tuberculosis and
ringworm + thyroid (the oil contains Iodine), atrophy of babies, whooping
cough (+ tickling or hacking cough with yellow expectoration) and chronic
rheumatism.
So mainly but not exclusively a tubercular remedy.
It has abnormal hair growth (which has been discussed lately in connection
with polycystic ovaries) and it also establishes menses, ovaries are sore.
Overall development might be delayed or faulty and linked to nutrition.
Weak, thin, under-developed children who are always getting colds. Cannot
tolerate milk.
Everything is yellow, like the oil.
Very chilly remedy but there are burning sensations as well. Very sensitive
to cold and damp.
The appearance of fever usually >>> other sx.
The main mental sx are those to do with excitability and usually accompany
the fever stage. When fever is absent many of the fears and anxieties are
similar to other tubercular rx - namely Phos.
Great remedy.
Best, Joy
