Re: Nodding Disease - Sudan

Hi Shannon
The information that I have given came on a news broadcast on BBC and also
the site I refer to.
I have no more info - but it seems that it is a chronic disease killing the
patient before they reach 20!
I found the site of some missionary workers - perhaps if we formulate some
questions to ask, we could ask them to help by responding - it is almost
like an epidemic!

Hi Soroush,
What role does food play in these children's life? (Beyond the obvious, I
mean!) Is there a shortage or disruption, such that the food might be
attached to any particular issues or situation or emotional response?
Since this has occurred within a small area and mostly to children, perhaps
it's worth looking for nutritional causation -- is the quality, quantity or
type of food different from usual? (For example, I think that certain types
of severe electrolyte imbalance [magnesium?] could lead to all of that and
be eventually fatal, tho easily corrected if the cause is known. I freely
admit this could be totally off-base...)
But to know how to rep the connection with food, I think we'd need more
information from particular cases, wouldn't we?
