ATKINS DIET - off topic?

I've been doing Atkins for several months, having been inspired by my
daughter, a 1 1/2 yr follower.
She was mostly interested in weight loss; I realized my carbohydrate intake
was out of control, and feared something like diabetes was just a few years
off if I didn't change. It's not really a diet, but more of a way of
looking at food. You are encouraged to eat plenty of vegetables! You also
eat lots of meat, eggs, fish, nuts, seeds, cheese, etc. What you don't eat
is starchy junk, but you don't miss it all that much somehow. The plan is
more limited for a couple weeks, then you can loosen up. Check the website
and find out for yourself

I definitely wouldn't eat soy stuff as a way of avoiding meat, from all I've
read lately. It hardly even falls into the catagory of food.

We avoid soy (and soybean oil, too). It is amazing how soy has been
represented as a "health food", when it is actually just an easy to grow,
cheap crop for huge corporations....

One issue with soy is that so much of the crop now is GM.
Also, I've noted that those cultures that use it traditionally, use it in
small amounts, accompanied by generous portions of (usually) rice and *lots
of veggies*. Personally I don't digest it in any form (except fermented
types seem okay), but I wonder whether, if used in the "traditional" ways,
it might be an okay food, if not GM?
