Sorry, I managed somehow to send only half a post.

I agree that nux doesn't address the thyroid, but if you seem to have
success with this remedy you might want to think about an organ support for
the thyroid if further tests suggest the gland is still hypo (personally I
can't make a full connection with a typical hypothyroid state and nux and
the case you describe).

Maybe have a look at Fucus (amongst others) for this.

I see what you mean...
Before she started thyroid meds, her state was different, and for much of
that time I lived 1500 miles away, so didn't get to actually see her much.
But I know she had changed from an active, vital person (even when she was
70, she could put me to shame on a brisk walk!), to an increasingly slow and
exhausted one, and over the past year or two(?) that has largely reversed.
As I recall extreme irritability is part of the hyothyroid picture (at least
I *think* that's what I recall), but she was irritable long before that,
too.

She's thin, which I think is because of her food trips; she was heavier when
she was younger. All I really know about the thyroid issue is that her
tests said she was quite critically low, and she's responded well to the
meds for hypothyroid (with some complication but not a lot). It may be that
her "symptom manipulation" with supplements and funny diets changes the
picture???

Thyroid, tho, doesn't seem to be the big issue right now, but rather the
parathyroids, and the awful trouble with calcium (cramping, osteoporosis).
That is what I would love to find an organ remedy for (someone has suggested
phytolacca in low potency, which does sound good to me), but there seems to
be not much written directly on the parathyroids; maybe because they're such
teeny little organs they weren't studied as early on???

I really think a test should be done on the Parathyroids (everything Dr R,
in his post was good) before you think about a prescription. Calc iodata
might the correct rx here.

I will urge her to get a scan done.
I'm encouraged by your remedy thoughts, as Sepia is the one I had most
recently told her to begin taking. (But I don't know whether she has, yet.)
Phos is one we tried in the past, but maybe we'll go back to it in the
future. (I think that choice was based on consideration of her prior,
healthier state, rather than the present one, oops...).

I just remembered two other symptoms she's recently complained of, which
again support sepia: diplopia (no other details) and eyes watering while
reading. And beginning of cataracts, recently worsening. Esp. in view of
these (confirmatory?) symptoms, do you feel I shouldn't have her start sepia
until after the scan is done? Actually I don't know how I would use the
information to alter my remedy choice, anyway...??

I would be using LM's here as my first choice of potency.

You have some case management issues to think about - the thyroid meds and
the supplements - hopefully the simillimum will clear the need for these,
but this could take some time, perhaps a little gentle persuasion would
help, although always be careful about instructions for reducing any
medication that appears to have had an addictive pull to it.
