At the moment he is very hungry and thirsty - side-effect of the cortisone,
I understand. Normally he has had no choice with food so preferences are
hard to tell - our dogs have always eaten lots of rice with a little meat,
and eaten it warm. He has a good appetite normally. I think by choice he
would eat more meat though. He does like a lot of stroking. He is also
pretty independent, though at the same time comfort-loving and very keen on
being close to humans. I was told that Shih Zus are a very old breed of
Chinese temple dogs, but couldn't guarantee that it's accurate. Thank you

What precipitated this anemia, vaccination? recent treatment for another
condition? injury? etc.

New dog question:

We're about to get a new puppy, a very tiny Maltese (grown weight about 2 kilos). The breeder says she's given eacy puppy a half dose of the standard immunizations (they're now 8 weeks old.), I presume because of their tiny size (about 500 g at this point). Obviously, I'm wondering about further immunizations for dogs, and how people get around the omnipresent requirements by governments and travel companies that dogs have current certificates of immunization. With our cat, we just don't take her anyplace. That works fine for a cat, but won't work for a dog. Any suggestions?
