Hi,

Use of Syzygium Jambolanum (Eugenia Jambolana) as a
hypoglycemic agent which is due its effect in
stimulation of insulin production from islets of
Langerhans and inhibition of insulinase activity in
liver is actually part of herbal medicine. The data
was gathered by experience of undynamized extracts of
the pulp of the fruit on lowering and disappearence of
urine sugar. And that's why it is used in the form of
mother tinctures.

If it is going to be used in potencies and
homoeopathically, it should be proved carefully and
the medicinal picture should be defined. Some provings
have been carried out but the body of the data is not
enough for it to be used homoeopathically.

Syzygium can be used as a herbal extract for lowering
the blood sugar and to replace or reduce the use of
insulin in diabetic patients but this is not a
homoeopathic effect.

I have now spend some time looking that remedy up in MacRep and RefWorks.
Everybody quotes or copies Dudgeon or Boericke, who are quoting the remedy as "having cured diabetes".
I found only one single proving by Milton Powell with ONE prover.

As you can see, fairly large rubrics with the only single remedy rubrics related to prickly heat (whatever that means) and ulcers in diabetes and with sugar in the urine....no ulcer, no cigar.........
So I am asking again: how would you find that remedy through a classical repertorisation as there are no mentals, no specific generalities, no real modalities???
The use of Syzygium seems to belong to the realm of herbalism, potentised herbs or clinical homeopathy, all of those being reviled and anathema to pure classicists who claim only the correct simillimum will cure...........and yet some do use it with success.
Please explain.

It is a clinically indicated remedy and its use has been entirely derived from use in Indian medicine ( Ayurveda and Siddha). Provings are not extensive ( there are some provings done by Central Council of Research in Homeopathy in India).

Apart from using it on its herbal indication for diabetes the next step is to use its concomitants to individualize.

In Ayurveda it is useful in chronic diarrhea and dysenteries, ulcerative conditions in GI tract and skin, splenic enlargements.

It is also used as a diuretic!!!

So the next level of indication and pointer will be to use it in -

diabetes associated with diarrheas, dysentery
diabetes with ulcerative conditions
diabetes with skin conditions with itching
diabetes with not much urination
Metformin hcl, which is standard in allopathic approach to diabetic treatment, can set up diarrheas with spicy food etc. I have seen folks with diabetes who are on Metformin having increased gastritis and freq diarrheas. Syzygium in low potencies has helped a couple of them based on the indication diabetes with diarrheas.

This is one approach I have taken many times with herbal remedies. To note down all the conditions that these herbal remedies are claimed to address and then use the principle of concomitants to define the sphere of action of the remedy more precisely.

I have seen wonderful cures by other systems of medicine. Personally I think that the cumulative action of many of these medicines internally probably is homeopathic. I have written many times about this observation. Instead of diluting as Hahnemann did to remove the aggravation, I think some of the herbal combinations try to do the same thing by negating the harmful effects of primary action and by stimulating the secondary by adding other herbs etc sometimes similar to the drainage, canalization ( channeling ) etc. found in the French homeopathic writings.

Very many cases do not have any mental sx whatsoever to use and plenty of cases also do not have useful emotional sx either - there are now about 59 sx in complete for Syz - but when all else fails you are still working to match sx (hopefully), plenty to go on.

You might want to compare this rx with other in the same family (unfortunately Sankaran didn't include the Myrtles in his plant book), but Eugenia, for example has a lot of alternating states - delusion of beauty mixed or alternating with considerable discontent; loquacity yet meditative etc.

If that interested in this rx why not do a new and full proving, it is certainly on my list.

I prescribed purely on the basis of herb+disease. The followers of anciant greek system of medicine have talked very high of this fruit and more about the powdered seeds of this fruit to be used for diabetes. You are correct there are no mentals/physical generals. Take care.
