Hi everyone,
Any advice for alternatives to taking iron for anemia? I'm only mildly
anemic and so far there does not seem to be any reason for it besides
insufficient dietary iron. Is ferrous fumerate a good supplement? Any
experience with this? What got me into the doctor was yellow skin that
I thought might be liver related. Has anyone heard of yellow skin with
anemia?

I would like to address your question from a Regimen point of view, not from
a Homeopathic point of view, as I don't have enough information from your
post to do so.

The symptoms you describe may be indicative of something much deeper than
your doctor found. I would highly recommend to you to have a hair analysis
done, as it will reveal what might be the mineral imbalances that are at the
root of this anemia. Often, something that registers as anemia ends up
being an Iron Overload in the tissue (hence the yellow skin...) and if you
do a search on Iron Overload, you will see that it is causative in many
serious conditions.

If you are indeed just low on iron through insufficient dietary intake,
there are several simple ways of alleviating that: You can take 2 TBS of
unsulphurated Molasses every day, as molasses is very high in bioavailable
iron. You should also drink a glass of freshly squeezed carrot (50%),
beets (25%) and bell peppers (25%) juice. I would not, at this time,
recommend taking animal liver (although it is very high in iron), unless you
know for sure that you are not in Iron Overload, because meat is one of the
causes for this overload.

Another possible reason for the yellow skin, especially if the palms of your
hands are also somewhat yellow/orange tinted, can be a deficiency in EFA's,
especially Omega 3 oils. You want to rule out for this option as well.

I have used Ferr. Phos in low potency (3x - 6x) according to Dr.
Schuessler's protocol to increase iron uptake in anaemic patients with great
results when it was indicated. At the same time, I have successfully dealt
with Iron Overload by advising the patients to donate blood regularly.

Adding iron to a Thalassemic person is seriously contraindicated. It adds to the problem. Thalassemia is an inability to produce certain globulin chains for the production of hemoglobin; the availability of iron has nothing to do with it.

Hi Marie,
I did some reading on Thalassemia. My MCV count was low. I will ask the
doctor about it next time I see him. I am not taking the iron
supplement, so it will not be a problem until then. I suppose that
Thalassemia minor is not routinely diagnosed like Thalassemia major. It
is interesting that he would prescribe iron without ruling this out.
Homeopathic treatment for Thalassemia?

Dear Laura,
You did your homework! If indeed there is Thal. minor present, that means that there is a 'glitch' in the genes somewhere, depending on what kind of Thal. it is: alpha or beta (those are the major globin chains of hemoglobin involved; there are others, but playing a less important role). I would like to think that there is a Homeopathic solution to every human condition. The problem is how to find it. Maybe some of the other learned members of the list could jump in here and add a word of wisdom and knowledge from their fast experience.

Hi Laura,

I love Rooibos tea, but I would not sweeten it with Molasses... I also
don't know about it doing anything to iron, it is such a different herb!

Why not just make a drink from the molasses in hot water plus some milk or
cream? It is like coffee and does not ruin the flavor of any herbal tea...

Re the yellow skin. I had a patient with that a coupe of years ago and it was caused by the amount of carrot juice he was consuming daily!!!!

My understanding has been that genetically based complaints won't be
curable, but can certainly be "palliated" (and note, palliation is
*different* from suppression!!!!! "Palliation" means that it is not cured,
but symptoms are relieved). In the case of a mild disorder, this might come
out to being darned close to cure, except one would need to assume that
treatment is on-going, rather than something one can "finish".

Hi VTY,

I have a (long-past) patient with genetic iron overload (I forget the name
of the condition), who was also a picture-perfect calc-c (and responded
beautifully to it). I lost touch with this person long ago, so have no idea
whether the remedy affected his iron retention, but am curious how you would
approach this situation -- in your experience *might* a well-fitting other
remedy decrease the iron load, or if not, would you give puls in addition?

If you would, how would you handle potency and repetition?
