Hi all,

Can anyone suggest rubrics for this? My daughter has what looked at first
like an over-scratched bug bite, but now (2-3 days later?) has developed an
odd-looking infected(?) area around it: like a slowly expanding mass of
confluent bubbly-looking skin, with clear liquid inside. Since it's getting
worse instead of better I want to do *something* for it, but don't see
anything to prescribe on except (her still-elusive constitutional state, or)
the strange-looking bubbly area. Vesicles??? or ???

sounds like poison ivy. what is her exposure?

reporatorize the case, as normal. is she better hot water on the outbreak
is she very itchy?
do the vesicles develop along the scratch lines?

there are quite a few rx for PI, beside rhus tox

Hi Tanya,

You're thinking along the same lines as I have been, but there's nothing
much to go on, I'm afraid! It's not poison ivy or oak (none present around
here). I appears to be a strictly local reaction to something that happened
in an overscratched (probably) flea bite (presumably infection?). Hot water
is okay (we soaked to dry it out), and cold feels like "nothing" (probably
put it only over the pustules, which insulated!). The vesicles (if they're
not too big to be called that???) aren't along scratch line, but seem to
develop by slowly spreading outward from the original area. She thinks that
it spreads when she scratches/rubs the area (it is "sometimes" itchy, but
apparently rather mildly so). So, it could equally well be that the skin
itches as the infection begins to invade it?

I can find nothing at all to rep, except for her constitutional (elusive,
but I'll be trying again!) and the appearance, presumed cause, itch (mild
and occasional), and presumed infection.

Looking at:

Several are plausible for a current chronic/constitutional choice. I guess
I'll just make my best choice from among those, and see what happens. (So
far I've done nothing other than the soak; waiting for inspiration to
strike, I guess!) It's just so odd in appearance...

I'd throw some calendula tincture diluted on it and keep it away from water in general. Maybe she is infecting it with her hands and infecting it

Hello Shannon,

I had a similar experience with my son after he played tennis one evening,
at first I thought it was a insect bite. Treated him acutely by giving
hep-s 200c every 2 hours and compress the area with warm application.
Within about five hours the odd- looking infected area burst and all the
puss came out with a bit of blood at the end. The area healed gradually
with no problem but appeared again after a few months then we realised that
it was a sebaceous cyst. Still I repeated the same treatment but this time
I did Hep-s descending from 1M down followed by Mag- phos 30c, It cleared
totally, not any sign of it since three years ago.

sometimes it is good to check out the mental state at the time of the eruption. it might be
related to a momentary emotional upheaval that wasnt expressed or this person may be
harboring some supressed feeling that broke out through the skin.

i am just reaching, of course. i dont know this person. how does the person feel about
this eruption? is there anxiety, for example

Did the cyst contain watery fluid, or something thicker?

She doesn't seem to feel anything in particular toward the eruption, except
a little self-conscious, so she bandages it when she goes out. (But at 13,
it doesn't take much to make her self-conscious!) The idea about mental
state and momentary upheaval is harder to answer -- part of the reason I've
had such a hard time with her constitutional! But I'll see if she has
thoughts about that.

You could think of the spider remedies too - they can have the
disintegrating affect and the vesicles, and not so intesely itching as Rhus.
Especially if there is an element of purple or dusky redness, necrosis or
ulceration at the initial site.
