Hope someone can help me out here.

I have an Arab stallion, gelded at 18 months. Who has just been
diagnosed with Lupus. This presents in him as hives, which used to
come and go (with allopathic care), the side effects of which caused
the owner to consider other choices. He is an Arab white/grey in
colour .

He has a fear of strangers and hates most of all strange men. And
taking a blood test was not an option for a long time. (We finally
have this now and thus the diagnosis). He presents with hives in
small to large pockets without too much itch and a surprising lack
of restlessness, this is what allerted me to something other than
hives. When the pockets break the discharge is a bright yellow
clear fluid and they heal easily. He does bite at them every now
and again, but we have not been able to establish whether he itches
worse at any one time. He is miserable when he has an outbreak, and
if worked can have a laboured type of breathing. His nose has the
tendency to be whiter than it should be at odd times. And his rear
legs have the tnedency to get stocked up from more than would be
expected. He has what has been diagnosed as acne bumps on his
hunches and lower back area, they were treated as a strep infection
with antibiotics when they apparently made pustules. But now these
present as hard lumps under the skin (lupus?). His front tendons are
not as straight and strong as they should be.

His appetite is good, and he drinks normal amounts, preferabley
after eating. After working he has a clear thin nasal discharge.

The tendons and itch/hives, along with mental state have responded
to Rhus Tox, he is very stiff on first working. But I know this
will not address the Lupus, and have little experience with treating
horses. I would appreciate any and all feedback he is a very
special soul.

Treating animals is no different from treating people -- they have
constitutional symptoms and respond, as you have seen, to indicated
remedies. So you shouldn't feel intimidated because it's a horse rather
than a human. The autoimmune diseases end up destroying tissues and organs,
which makes them quite syphilitic in nature. So most likely, to reach deeply
enough to affect the basic disease process, you will ultimately need to
switch to a more syphilitic remedy, quite possibly with an intercurrent
nosode.

Thank you so much for your interest Rosemary. I was going to
consider the case from a vacinosis point of view. Would I be
wrong? The tendon on the foreleg has a knot which does not respond
to Ruta and the acne lumps now hardened are making me think silicea

Dear Merrilee,

I have an eleven yr old white/grey arctic wolf dog that has had lupis for

aprox 6 years (although we didn't know what it was for a while.)
He also presented at first with a nose that became pale/white.
The nose eventually chapped and ulcered and a bit of became eaten away.
His nose is better now - pink - no longer ulcerated,
but probubly still tender as he is protective of it.
But his L rear leg has become very weak, trembling,
making walking difficult and three times, starting this winter, he had
sudden spasms where his back contorted/spasmed to the right and
his legs flailed about - then he was ok.
After this his last (3rd) time he can no longer put any weight on that L
rear leg -
it just hangs down off the ground - not even trembling at this point.
He had hyp 1M, 3X from 9/24/02 to 2/18/01.
He has taken sulph 200C 2 Xs and aur met 1M, 4 times since 2 yrs ago.
He is curently getting bell 200 2X a day for 3 days or till improvement.
He is now < cold when he used to live for the cold.
I was wondering if a low/gross dose of vermiculite would be good for his
knee, spine, etc.
