A few weeks ago someone on this list mentioned that they
do not like to give dogs sulphur.
(I was clearing out my Inbox & unfortunately deleted it.).
I'm curious to know their experience.
2 strays that I took in were given sulphur by my homeopathic vet
(who is wonderful and over the years has saved many of the dogs
I have had as well as others I have recommended to her.)
Both dogs died shortly after taking the sulphur.
One had fluid in the chest cavity and the other I do not know why.
I'm curious about others experience w/sulphur, esp w/dogs.

I think it depends on why the sulphur is given in the first place.

Our dog, Lucky, suffered terrible skin problems on his leg just after
being given his annual injection. It was the first time I ever took the
step and took him to a homeopathic vet. The vet gave me three
tablets to give Lucky, one on each of the following days, and then
I had to wait a fortnight for results. By the end of the two weeks
there was clearly an improvement in his leg. I phoned the vet and
he said I didn't need to take Lucky back to him, but to keep a close
watch on his leg and should it become worse or there was no further
improvement then to contact him again. But I'm pleased to say it cleared
up beautifully. I know the tablets he gave were sulphur, but I can't
remember the potency.

I would mention, however, that the following year the condition returned,
although
not as bad as before, but that time he was given Thuja.

If sulphur was truly the cause of your dogs' death, then I think we need and
want to know what happened! Can you tell more?

E.g., I would like to know whether it was truly sulphur-the-remedy that
caused their death, not some other cause and a coincidence of timing? (It's
really, really hard to kill someone with homeopathic remedies!!!! Unless
they are at death's door already, in which case it is *somewhat* easier. If
this is less true with dogs and sulphur, I would definitely like to
understand!)

What was the sulphur given for?
What was the dogs' condition at the time (any sign of severe illness already
brewing?)?
Could you (if it's not too painful, sorry) describe for us exactly what
happened during the (hours? days?) after they received the remedy?
Did the vet offer any thoughts as to what might have happened?

But even prescribing in a "cookbook" manner does not tend to be fatal!!!
I'm betting there was something else going on.

I think you said in your original email that they were stray dogs (forgive
me if I've got that wrong, but I have
since deleted the original email). Were they given a thorough check over by
the vet?

A bit more info would be useful.

You say the dogs were strays. Do you mean you just
took them in from the street, and if so did the vet give
them a thorough check over, or were they from a rescue
home? How long had you had the dogs when you gave
them sulphur?

A bit more info would be useful.

Like I said originally, I was prescribed sulphur to give to
our dog Lucky for a very bad skin condition, and within
two weeks it had cleared up beautifully.
