Minutus

Patient is 67 year old male who has a torticollis, (contracture of the left sternocleidomastoid muscle) pulling his head to the right. This began in Sept. 200l, following neck surgery in June 200l for what was dx'd as a bulging disc in his neck. His syptoms prior to surgery and leading to surgery was a numbness in thumb and lst finger tip of left hand. He can't feel anything in them still but they are very sensitive to heat and cold. (surgery did not help this numbness or sensitivity). Lately these symptoms have moved to the right lst finger and thumb. He has also had a contracture of the left 4th digit (used cortizone shot) and then went to the right. He has had botox injections in the scm muscle in May, Sept, Nov. of 2002. This helps temporarily. He is wanting to have another one next week, feeling that he has to get back to work. He is a truck driver.

Health history include blisters on the bottom of feet. Has erysipelas as a 1 year old. Appendectomy age 39. Occasionally the incision from that will break open and seep. At age 62 (1997)he had lumbar disc surgery. Before surgery he had pain standing, could not stand longer than 3 min. Sitting was fine. Pain would go from low back to knee. He does complain of frequent urination daytime only. Is on the warm side, likes to be with others or alone as well., Is on the thirsty side. Has a little claustrophobia and does not like public speaking. Nothing else too outstanding. He does have a problem with premature ejaculation. Anyone have experience with someone who has had botox injections? Presently, I have him on caust. LM l and not seeing success. Thanks for any help.

The only experience I have with botox is that while I was a student I used a child with Cerebral Palsy as one of my cases. He was doing great and his physio said how much easier it was to manipulate his legs. The parents decided to go botox and this kid who was walking ended up crawling. They were told that this could happen on the way to him improving but basically he did end up walking again, had another botox injection and I saw him a couple of years later and he wasn;t walking as well as he was when I was treating him. The sad thing was that as soon as I qualified and wanted to charge for treatment this fairly affluent (2 teachers) family stopped coming. I suppose their priorities were elsewhere including the holiday cottage abroad!!! It doesn't surprise me that the remedies are not working after Botox. You may have to go up on potency if you are sure of the remedy and keep repeating it.

Sharon,

Just looking at generals of warm blooded, left to right side, and the
re-opening of old wounds, Lachesis comes up on top. This is interesting as
it has a strong affinity for the neck/throat area. Lachesis also can have
anxiety about public speaking. Along the same lines, Naja is another
consideration. Obviously, the rest of the case needs to fit.

Just some thoughts.
