Magnesium carbonicum is all about support structures and a dependency on
this support - the picture often appears more clearly in children because
their need for support is more obvious than that of an adult who might have
gone through many streams of suppression or repression.

On a physical level the support comes in the shape of food - and Mag carb
affects the stomach and nerves, the need for nourishment accompanied by
anxieties. There is poor assimilation of food (especially milk and meat)
maybe leading to an emaciated state. They might also crave these substances
as well. Perhaps the child (or adult) anxieties prevent them from eating, or
even refusing to eat as in anorexia. But the lack of nourishment will effect
the teeth, nails, skin (dry and scaly), stools are clay like or green, the
bowels lose their elasticity, menstrual cycle messed up (flow only at night
or lying down), lots of neuralgic pains.

Of course one of the main forms of nourishment for children (and adults) is
love and security and the anxieties may well be centred around the family.

All the Magnesiums have a duality with aggression versus peace keeping and
this is why they are often thought of as a group for children who are caught
up in the middle of family disputes or divorce or abuse etc. The aggressive
force is a form of self protection and the peaceful and even introverted
aspect is purely one of "this is how it should be, please let it be like
this all the time" - (this is more the carbonicum influence) - the child may
get stuck in either of these states.

But, of course, the rest of the picture has to fit.

On the emotional level they fear that what security they do have will be
taken away from them - again this fear and anxiety is bound to present with
parents at war. There are delusions about counting money (to make sure it is
all there) and delusions about being murdered - they see dead people (this
might be fearfully true) and also delusions about seeing thieves - again,
this is about having their security stolen from them.

Understandably there is homesickness, always fearful of something going to
happen or of misfortune. As said before they can be either extremely
irritable and won't do anything (typical teenager but this is extreme), or
they will be reserved, sensitive, easily startled, timid, do not like being
touched and really do not like being looked at - this is a big keynote of
this remedy.

The emotions can be damaged in many respects - Scholten talks about it in
terms of respect - craving respect they feel is due to them and this is
another reason why they are aggressive and demanding and it is the
carbonicum aspect which softens this aggression somewhat.

If the person has become stuck in the more introverted side of this remedy,
then the suppression and/or repression will show themselves through dreams
(dreams of fire, floods, quarrels,), strange sensations as if everything is
unbalanced (well it actually is), as if the white of an egg has dried on
face (dry scaly skin is common with Mag Carb - they might even present with
this sx), and can go on to develop epilepsy (suddenly fall unconscious).

Rich as many of these emotional symptoms are I personally feel that you more
likely to decide on this remedy from the physical symptom picture, and
sometimes the very appearance of the person - they always look ill, are
thin, weak, feel the cold intensely, sallow and dirty looking, may even
smell bad - sour, dry and wrinkled skin.

Hope this helps.
