Dear All:
In light of the discussion about Dr. Sankaran's new method, I e-mailed Jeff
Baker for his help in elucidating it further. Jeff has studied in Bombay
with Dr. Sankaran and Dr. Shah extensively and uses this method in his
practice in Hawaii. I asked him for his comments on the
discussion as well. I am enclosing his response to me in full. I hope this
will give those who are questioning this method a boarder understanding.

Jeff mentioned that in addition to the 3 session seminar already scheduled
in Brattleboro, Vermont, Dr. Shah will be giving an additional 3-session
seminar in San Diego discussing this new method and demonstrating it. Dates
for San Diego will be April 16-19, 20003, Sept. 3-7, 2003, and May 14-18,
2004.

For more information about the either seminar please contact Jeff Baker

Hi Jill,

Thanks for the notes and the messages. I'm too busy to actually participate
in the forum, but it was interesting and at the same time somewhat
disappointing. In my reading of the various messages no one has really
articulated the multi-faceted aspects of Dr. Sankaran's method, inclusive of
at least a mention, let alone a thorough explanation of vital sensations
(non human, universal phenomena) upon which the entire method is based. And
then of course coming to the correct kingdom and sub-kingdom in a very
prescise fashion and finally coupling that with a clear and certain grasp of
the miasm such that the intersecting point of kingdom and miasm is
determined (THE REMEDY/THE SIMILLIMUM).

There is just so much more to Sankaran's method than what I read. By over
simplifying, Wendy, for example, was able to make a good argument against a
fixed routine of case taking, when, in fact, it is done quite differently
than Soroush described--though I do believe he got an actual glimpse of how
it is done and from that limited vantage point probably did quite a good job
or describing it, yet there is so much missing that I found it to be
somewhat of a disservice to the depth and breadth of the fullness of the
method as it has been articulated by Sankaran.

For example, there was no mention of the fact that at the outset of the
case the patient must be allowed to completely ventilate all that he/she has
come in to say. At the end, after the patient is completely done talking,
with no interruption whatsoever, then and only then may the homeopath
begin asking questions. Usually, not always, the first question is: from all
these complaints (it might be two or twenty), what is the worst problem.
Then that problem is investigated according to the various levels of
experience, somewhat along the lines of how Soroush has described, but
according to a elaborate road map.

As Rajan says, "I give the patient full reign, but I know, at all times,
where I am going." What this means is that every patient in given the full
scope to express his or her individuality. No two cases are taken in the
same fashion. As you can see this counters Wendy's argument, which of course
is correct to the extent that there must be full scope for each patient's
expression of his or her state. This is Sankaran's latest and what he
considers his most important contribution to homeopathy. It refers to the
potential level at which the patient lives every day, which could be the
level of name (level one), fact or symptoms (level two), feelings or
emotions (level three), delusion of imagination (level four), sensation
(level five) or energy (level six), which is evidenced by the energy
patterns such as hand gestures or other other energetic eruptions associated
directly with the patient's words.

I believe this is expressed best by a direct quote from Rajan, that I
recently noted down: "The basic philosophy is that the reality we perceive
is very superficial. There is a sensation inside of us that is the truth. If
we are conscious of that then this insecurity or fear or whatever is only an
experience of that. If we use these as symptoms we will only be mistaken. At
that gut level that sensation is experienced, but it's too deep for our
conscious to experience because we're adults; that is our problem. Children
experience it, but we don't. We make intellectual a gut level experienc
every time. That is the problem. How to reach there? It is found in
involuntary
gestures, expressions, in the movement and the energy pattern and it is
especially found in the sensation(s) that we feel inside. To be aware of
that sensation is the secret to our success. That is the underlying
philosophy. And there are simple ways to get there. If we rely on every
word, every gesture, every laugh, similarly with anger, not the words of the
anger, but the speed of the anger, the suddenness of the anger, in the
changeability of the anger it is there. It is there in the energy of the
emotion, in the feeling behind the dream. In fact we are just some patterns
of color and sound inside, just some sound and light; that's all we are. The
rest is all makeup. That's what I've understood in the last two years"

Again, Jill this should be taken as a mere thumb nail sketch. There is just
so much more to it than what has been discussed. If you like you may place
my words into the discussion. Please mention that I've been in practice for
twenty five years and consider myself to be wedded to Hahnemann's
homeopathy and in that context I believe that Rajan is advancing homeopathy
in the most elegant form yet seen, completely faithful to the master's
vision and perhaps beyond, yet without the least deviation from the truth as
expressed in the Organon.

Yours in homeopathy,
Jeff

Jill, thanks very much for this. Jeff's reply was very illuminating and
provided the context necessary for a far better and clearer appreciation of
the application of the method. It certainly addressed my concerns. Please
thank him for his contribution.
