Dear Jean,
Thanks for your email. Its good to hear from you. We are now living on
Thursday Island. We moved here just before Christmas. Everything went
smoothly. So far we have all really enjoyed being here. Its a very
positive, vibrant sort of place. The people are very friendly and
welcoming. The Islanders have all sorts of aspirations for the future of
the district and welcome imput from others. They seem to value education a
lot and expect the highest standard for their children. They are very proud
of their heritage, but realise that life will never be the same as it was
200 years ago, but they are prepared to embrace modern life as a new part of
their culture.
++++ is working. He has full time employment with an Apprentice and
Traineeships Service. This is just what he has wanted to do for some years
now. It means that he will have to travel to the outer islands a bit, which
he is really looking forward to. Just having work and feeling like his life
has value again I think has done more for his health than anything else has.
He is now looking forward to life.
Andrew and Bronia like the island, and are looking forward to starting
school next week.
Hope everything is well for you. How have you coped with the bush fires? -
they must be terrible. I hope that you have had no damage.
Keep in touch.
