RADAR/EH on Mac?

Does anyone have experience using this program on a Mac?
I've heard it used to have bugs, then heard not... Any feedback?
Thanks,
Shannon

The new version runs well under OS9 & OSX with the latest version of
"Virtual PC"
Often people reporting 'a bug' are unable to perceive the possibility of
"operator error" which is the commonest problem with computers &
software.
There IS an incompatibility designed into Windows XP, which make it
unsuitable for using with Virtual PC.

>Does anyone have experience using this program on a Mac?

Hi Shannon,

This is something I've been meaning to address for a long time with
Radar! I purchased Radar for Mac just over a year ago. Initially I
had good support..I had some wobbly CDs sent for loading the program
but they were making such a hideous noise in my drive that they were
readily replaced by the Radar folk. The 2nd set were fine.

However, it would crash at almost every session I wanted to use
it..repeatedly coming up with a message about some font problem. On
the rep page I would be trying to view there would be a little black
oblong block appear that seemed to stop the scrolling and be part of
the trouble.

So I sent a post to Radar explaining in full the problem, the exact
messages (there was actually a sequence of them finishing with a
fatal error message before it would crash) etc and was told that the
program technicians would have to get back to me about it. All other
questions I had at the time were serviced very well but I never got a
reply back about this particular problem.

I sent several posts to repeat my request, would give up and a few
months later ask once more before giving up altogether. I tried to be
very patient realising they were still in the process of improving
the mac version and thought that in due course they would finally get
back to me when they had sorted out the problem. To this day it
remains the only problem I have encountered.

Still haven't heard back but will send another reminder now that is
over a year since I requested help on this one. It otherwise works
fine and I would be perfectly happy with it and ready to upgrade if
it weren't for it being SOOOoo frustrating when it crashes all the
time...this nearly drives me to selling it and going to
MacRep/Reference Works :(
I was sent the older ExLibris books as part of the package because at
that time the EH was not yet available for macs..this works with no
trouble at all. I was told that I would still get the Mac version of
basic EH when it was finished. Radar had predicted another 6 mths
before EH for macs would be ready. I have not as yet received this
either.

Anyway that's my story. Before I made my decision to go for Radar I
had done some research and it looked the best program available even
though I had some reservations about how well it would run on a mac.

HTH...Tan.

Thanks, Tan.

Bad news that they haven't been responding... It sounds like they've given
up for the moment on getting EH ready for Macs. Getting the PC version and
adding Virtual PC adds a couple hundred to the price (ouch).
Well, thanks for the warning about crashing. I recall they offer a
one-month trial on the purchase, so I guess I had better take full advantage
of that, if I decide to try it!
Again, thanks so much for sharing your experience with it -- and hope you're
able to exterminate your bug!

Best,
Shannon

Perhaps it's time to be a squeaky wheel. I had problems with WinCHIP crashing on me -- and with it refusing to print more than the first two pages of my interviews. Numerous requests to RADAR brought the "you're the only one" type of reply, which turned out not to be true. Finally, after sending one extremely irate e-mail, I received help, which included a free upgrade and reconstruction of my patient files. Sometimes you just have to show how angry you are.

Good luck!

An addendum: To be fair, I should point out that my problems with WinCHIP happened several years ago, early in the life of a program when bugs are more likely to lurk. Since then, there's been a major change in the support staff at RADAR. Though I haven't needed their help, because my programs are running just fine, thank you, I have appreciated the work they've done at the Whole Health Now website by way of illustrating program capabilities that may not be apparent to those of us who are not technojocks. It's so easy to stick to certain tried and true applications, but Will Taylor's series force us (force me, at least) to explore new areas -- and I'm grateful for the continuing stimulation they provide.

Peace,
Cinnabar

Thanks for that input Cinnabar,

I was a squeaky wheel for a time but know I'll have to get it rolling
again. I've had such a busy time and a year of troubled health that I
just couldn't keep up with things.
Better go and find the original posts I filed away and start again.

Thanks for the nudge, Tan.

Yes it is a shame Shannon,

If I had not been led to believe there was no prob with the running
of Radar on my Mac and it was just a matter of being patient for the
Mac EH to be developed in 6 mths I prob would have had to opt for a
different program. I didn't get offered a 1 month trial either but
prob because it was a lower range package.

Anyway..that's what I've got until I commence hassling again ;)

Cheerz, Tan.

Hi Cinnabar,

It might also be pointed out that WinCHIP is wholly produced by a 3rd
party.
Not by WholeHealthNow.com nor by Archibel.com
Product development & support of WinCHIP are therefore largely dependant
on this 3rd party (Italian, I think) company.

Thanks, Dave, for pointing that out. I'd forgotten about that another firm
was involved.
