I had a patient (age 6) in this morning with white ulcers (?) in mouth on tongue and they are painless. The child is getting intermittent fevers and when I saw him this morning had no temperature , was lively and fine!! The fevers seem to start at around 3.30 and Mum has given a Bell 30 (glassy eyes, heat on head, feels hot to touch but wants covering) and the child sleeps until about 7 pm and then is fine again!! He is not eating much (although had 2 pepperoni sausages for breakfast yesterday!!!) and is thirstless. He drinks cold drinks when mum can get them down him but has never been offered hot. He also is cutting his first adult teeth. This started after a fall on holiday when Mum gave an Arnica 30. After Mum then showed me her back which had little healing pustules in a patch and said this all reminds her of when they all had hand foot and mouth on holiday once. She reckons that every time the immunity is down they come up with a slight repeat of this. Mum has been in contact with chicken pox and said that she reckoned this might be shingles on the back.

The remedy I came up with for the boy was Hellebores which has the ulcers and the painlessness of them. It also has a 4-8 agg which I found interesting and the description of how he is when he goes downhill in the afternoon. I gave 1 dose 30C.

Any comments much appreciated + anything on human hand foot and mouth.

What to say? Could be a good prescription. Hellebore usually has very
offensive breath and the mouth exceedingly dry (and thus thirsty) so?? Had
you considered Phos (spicy sausage for breakfast!!). Baptisia is another
consideration (painless and fevers) as is Opium.

If they both have been near animals you have to think about anthrax as well.
You can't rely entirely on speculation as it doesn't change the sx in front
of you. If it is human foot and mouth it is likely that blisters will appear
elsewhere. Only a lab test will tell you for sure and, by the way, this
would be notifiable. The general malaise might well be an acute trying to
come out (been vaccinated??), the mother as well. The right rx will bring it
out.

Foot and Mouth

Dear Joy,
I looked at both Baptisa and Phos and dismissed them for various reasons. I think it was the time modality that clinched the Hell. I'll let you know if it does anything. One cat has died and been buried recently but there is another. No recent vaccinations that I know of although I also know that Mum does keep the kids up to date with their vaccination programme!!! Mum said that the blisters come up now and again, she thinks when the immune system is down. She comes in to see me for a follow up next week so I may know more then. Considering she has been seeing me for nearly a year this is the first I have heard of them. her last Rx was a new one for her Pall. so maybe it is an old symptom thrown up. The boy's last constitutional Rx was Verat which he has done quite well on.

Dear Rochelle

I find it responds to Rhus-t 200C in a water potency given bd for a few days
until the vesicles settle.
