I'm trying to find pertinent rubrics for someone who has a fear of talking
on the telephone. If she has to call someone, she prepares herself the day
prior to the call by taking a relaxant. She has a fear of answering the
phone as well. She feels this stems back to her youth when her mother would
insist she make monthly calls to the members 'blue bell girls club' to
remind them of the meetings. She felt the other girls thought she was acting
'superior.'

I've found Mind-Fear - telephone, of (with nat-p and visc)

Does anyone have any other rubrics that might also fit this particular
symptom?

Hi Carol,
I think you should be looking in the anxiety from anticipation rubrics.
What is she afraid will happen? See if you can get to the core of the
problem. Does this happen in any other aspects of her life? With this
anxiety what symptoms does she get? Diarrhoea, trembling, etc.?

Hi Carol,

Since there is (may be) this connection with actual, specific events, I'd
consider "fear of telephone" to be not necessarily the thing to focus on.
(She apparently has *reason* to have ill associations with it!) But see
what's suggested about her "susceptibility": Even tho she has this specific
reason for distaste (if not fear) of the 'phone, not every kid would have
reacted that way, not every kid would have hated the chore so, not every kid
would have made the assumptions she made ("the other girls thought she was
acting 'superior'). Maybe there are clues in there?

E.g., in the rest of her life, presently, are there issues with, e.g.,
"being told what to do", or feeling misjudged, put-down, disliked, etc.
("acting 'superior'"), or being/feeling "dominated", or fear of saying what
she needs to say, or etc.?

What is the feeling when she has to use the phone -- that she will say
something stupid, get in trouble, something bad will happen? Since this is
a specific focus for her, maybe if you can get her to describe her reactions
to it as fully and vividly as possible, there will be clues???

(Do nat-p or visc seem to fit, for curiosity?)

Thanks for all the replies - I'll be meeting with her again in 2 weeks and will get more detailed information. Sounds like you've got me headed in the right direction. I got 'stuck' on the peculiar symptom aspect... c
