Believe it or not I am not used to patients coming back with no change in
any symptoms after a month so I thought I would present the case to you +
the follow up and see if anyone has any ideas of remedies I could be
thinking about.

Regards
Rochelle
---------------------------------------
30th October 2002
Background
This 31 yr. old male He presented dressed warmly in a grey tracksuit, with
blond hair and glasses. His face sported a rash, which was in red blotches
on his forehead. It was dry but not itchy. He thought long before answering
questions and looked down and was not forthcoming without me asking. He
also repeated my questions. He sighed heavily sometimes when I asked a
question and I think he blushed a couple of times.

Presenting complaint - psoriasis.
"It's a pain in the neck and started at age 16 from sunburn. I was blistered
all over and was ill. It's like having a weight on your back. It goes in
September and then comes back." It's on his legs, elbows, head (hairline)
waist, groin, stomach. It is in red circles, very dry, which white scales.
It is not itchy. He has rarely used steroids.

He doesn't think that his girlfriend would have anything bad to say about
him. He is stubborn in getting things done. He has ideas but is not always
right and does admit if he is not. He doesn't do DIY. He says he is caring,
honest and too soft when trying to do something for someone and puts himself
out. "I try to do too many things at a time. I can say no. My bad points
are that I forget a few things because I am busy.

Anger - "I don't get angry I get annoyed and then I don't speak as much. I
will sit and relax. Some say I am quiet and some say I am not.

Stress - the job when it is busy. (Greeting cards).

Parents - "I live at home and get on with my parents. I can't bring a girl
to stay in my room but I am OK with that.

Childhood - "OK, my 2 older sisters used to torment me. I remember getting
lost and a policeman tied me up in the police station, as I wouldn't stay
still. I was 3. I also remember cutting my finger on a milk bottle.

Milestones - early walker. Teeth are over crowded

School - "OK. I went to college and did courses to become an instructor, for
archery, canoeing and sailing. I don't do this anymore but I do skiing. I
belong to a gym. I won't go swimming, as I feel uncomfortable about the
psoriasis and people seeing it.

Music - likes pop music.

Fears (big sign) - none. He likes watching thunderstorms.

"I am not open as a person and not closed. I don't tell anyone everything. I
don't always show my feelings and I might be snappy.

Upset? - He says he does cry. The last time was something to do with his
sister "'cos she can get nasty. I get upset 'cos we've fallen out. I have
shared this with my mum, other sister and girlfriend.

Sensitive

Headaches - behind the right eye.

Eyes - long sighted

Sleep -pattern was interrupted last week.

Decisions - "Most of the time I stick to them."

Anxiety - none

Indigestion - heartburn in the past.

Temperature - "I don't feel the cold but I like to be warm. I like the heat
but dislike damp."

Food - dislikes oranges (texture), fresh tomatoes, turnips, sweet potatoes
and the texture of onions and mushrooms - he would sieve soup made of them.
He likes sweet things. Aversions to seafood like crabs and prawns. He drinks
a lot of tea.

"My girlfriend calls me bossy but no one else. I have an opinion like any
person would have."

He likes to be in the company of others but there are times when he wants to
be in the house.

Nosebleeds - many years ago. If he cuts himself he doesn't bleed much.

Affectionate.

Grief - death of grandma.

"I f I were Prime minister I would close the channel tunnel and then we
would not have problems with people flooding the country. I would crack down
on it and it is beyond a joke. This country is becoming a nanny state."

When on his own he tries to relax by watching TV or going to the gym.
Exercise amel.

"I am quite happy working for the family business as it has the freedom I
wouldn't otherwise have. I make my own decisions without being told what to
do or have to ask permission. The cons are the staff and trusting them."

"Money doesn't concern me. I am not materialistic."

Future - wants a nice big house and kids are not a priority.

Gets white mouth ulcers and have had piles in the past.

Family medical history
Maternal grandmother - heart disease grandfather thrombosis
Paternal grandmother - cancer

Parents are fine.

Follow Up
4th Dec
No change in anyway he says.

I tried to question him more about his sister but all he would say was that
it is more an annoyance.

I tried to see if he had any other "politic concerns" and he said he does
have concerns about some local issues like holes in the road and kicked up a
fuss to the council when he got a puncture from driving over one.

I tried to find out more about his lack of trust in his staff and it is the
fact that they might pinch money.

Re - friends, he says that they are an odd bunch and one is a manic
depressive. I couldn;t get much out of him re why and how he chooses his
friends. he said that his girlfriend of 8 months would say that he was
"brilliant" because he is always there for her.

His bedroom is a mess but at work he is organised. he did say he folded his
clothes up when putting them away in drawers. (he still lives at home)

In September the psoriasis is always 80% better. he had to admit that it
hadn't got any worse since the remedy I gave. The doctor says that the rash n
his forehead is fungal rather than psoriasis but he has had no tests to show
this.

Company - he prefers to be in company but does also likes his own space.

At work he delegates a lot.

He would prefer to live in the country but not be isolated. he likes parties
but not all night as he likes his sleep.

Likes eggs but not too runny and he drinks milk.

Can be stubborn.

He dreams but can't remember any.

Prescription - I gave him a 200 of the Rx I gave him a 30C of last time as I
was scared about making the psoriasis worse.

Hi Rochelle,

Indeed not an 'open' case.
Sounds like Lyc with Carc as a 'push up'.

Hi Jan,
Thank you sooooo much for your reply. I have to say that I did think of
Lyco. but he is quiet. softly spoken and the word "bossy" only came into it
because I asked if anyone have ever called him bossy!! It did come up in my
rep for the psoriasis, company desire, aversion tomatoes, prejudice opinions
and ailments from sunburn which is where the psoriasis seems to have stemmed
from. But would a Lycopodium person be able to delegate? I see Lyco as
proactive and there was no way he appeared to be boasting about his
achievements. I find it strange that he is happy living at home at his age
and I remember discussing that when his girlfriend stays she is in a
separate room as it wouldn't be right to share a room in his parent's
house - like it is a moralistic attitude. I can see where the Carc. is in
the family background and also in that he likes thunderstorms. Also in where
he says that he is too soft when trying to do something for someone. However
I find him very closed.

All the best

Hi Rochelle,
I would like to offer that if you wanted to treat the psoriasis you may want
to consider Bacillinum 200, as well as Bryonia 30 (courtesy of Advanced
Hom.) These have successfully treated cases of psoriasis, non-itching, dry,
scattered all over, without needing to take the patient's personality into
consideration.

Robyn

Dear Rochelle,

Yes I understand your reservations about Lyc.
But, as you know, Lyc is quite a 'big' remedy with a lot of different
aspects to it, especially on the psychological level.
The picture you describe of Lyc is very similar how for instance Sankaran
sees Lyc.
But look how C. Coulter pictures Lyc. If one compares both pictures one
would be temped to question whether both authors are talking about the same
remedy.
Is one of them wrong? I don't think so, but they put emphasis on other
aspects of this great rem.
And so it's possible that in Coulter Portraits, Lyc is typed as a diplomat,
somebody who tries to prevents conflicts etc....
and that's more the picture I saw in your client.

For what's worth, here are the rubrics on which I relied to propose Lyc:

SKIN - ERUPTIONS - psoriasis
MIND - YIELDING disposition
GENERALS - SUN - sunburn
GENERALS - SEASONS - summer; in - agg.
MIND - SECRETIVE
GENERALS - FOOD and DRINKS - tomatoes - aversion
GENERALS - FOOD and DRINKS - onions - aversion

And of course Lyc can be very closed people.
And also the "He doesn't think that his girlfriend would have anything bad
to say about
him" and the "He said that his girlfriend of 8 months would say that he was
'brilliant' because he is always there for her." could as well be pronounced
by a Lyc, I guess.

Only my 2 cents.

Jan

Dear Jan,
On what you have said I would agree but I have to ask if you have ever given
Lycopodium to a person with no digestive complaints as I have to say that I
have not. I use a lot of Lycopodium in my practice and I hesitate to say it
but it really does seem to be a specific for IBS of most sorts in that it
does alleviate someof the problems and leads me to the next if any, remedy.
The onion thing is to do with the texture of them. This is the same with raw
tomatoes as he will have tomato soup and sauce!!!

Rochelle,

Sounds like he is not expressive by nature and repeats questions. Said the
police "tied him up because he would not stay still". What about zincum? Of
course it has the skin stuff, too.

Hi Robyn, Rochelle, & list,

I doubt that you are suggesting treating skin sx in an isolated fashion,
which might in all likelihood be suppressive treatment of the worst sort.

Psoriasis is a symptom of chronic disease, and needs to be treated as such.
Apprehension of chronic diasthesis (homeopathically speaking) impossible
from information given, but seems more toward Psora or possibly Syphilitic
than other, though could be Tubercular. Since the case needs to be
addressed on this level, it might be a good idea to gather (& relay)
information sufficient for comment in this area.

The rubric Skin - Eruptions, Psoriasis has over 100 remedies
Tub. & Bry among them, and if the skin sx metioned are actually psoriasis-
(which, from the description, is Quite Unclear- could as well be eczema,
which may be easily confused with psoriasis.. one major differential
diagnostic keynote being thickened skin in psoriasis)
...possible etiology suggests Sol & Xray (both in general psoriasis rubric)
Adding periodicity to above highly suggests Sol.
(which btw, would be highly contra-indicated in seasonal affective disorder)

Skin sx which may need to be differentiated include
Photoallergic dermatitis << possibly indicated by periodicity & etiology
Erythema
Urticaria
Sarcoidosis
Lupus vulgaris
Leprosy
Syphilis - tertiary
Tinea circinata
Psoriasis
Lichen planus
Pityriasis rosea
Seborrhoeic dermatitis
Syphilis - secondary
Mycosis fungoides

A tiny rubric, which is therefore worth consideration
HEAD - PAIN - Forehead, in - Eyes - Behind - right
(having this symptom expressed as a fully qualified homeopathic symptom
would be helpful)

polychrest, and 50 others.

Hi Rochelle,
Mnd: SIGHING
Mnd: ANSWER / repeats the question first
Mnd: ANSWER / reflects long
Ge: SUN / agg from exposure to
(Back, pain pressing, cervical region)

I would think of Cocc.

The characteristic objective symptoms of this patient seem to point into
this direction.

Best,

Gaby
