OFF TOPIC(a very minor query about fonts/computers)..

Post by Rhonda Bird »

Okay, here's an almost insignificant question, but one I can't fathom. It
has to do with the typing of Hom-oe-opathy, where the 'o' and 'e' are joined
in the "pure" spelling of this word. How does one do it, so it can look
fanciful. I'd prefer to adopt this way.

Not life-altering stuff, just wanting to know!
Thanks, Rhonda

Rhonda, if you have a word processor eg. Word, go to INSERT - symbol and
look up the Latin type symbols and you should find it. You can create a
shortcut for the one you choose and use it at will.

Hi, Rhonda. I THINK that's a question that can be answered quickly, and as
I'm originally a linguist, I'll attempt an answer. The oe that you
separated out is a diphthongated spelling, two letters for one sound, so the
way you did it should be correct. The "oe" is an attempt in English to spell
the German umlauted o, which has its own distinct pronunciation.
