Dear Birili,
Your question inspired me to research the topic of Calcareas and I found
the following information.
1) Calcarea acetica is one of the remedies first proved by Hahnemann and
is described in his Materia Medica Pura:
"In order to obtain pure calcareous earth dissolved in pure acetic
acid, I boiled crude, well washed oyster shells for an hour in pure
spring water, then broke them into fragments without using nay metal
instrument, and dissolved these fragments in distilled vinegar, which I
heated up to the boiling point in a porcelain vessel until complete
saturation was gradually effected. The filtered solution was evaporated
to one fifth in a similar vessel, and with this fluid neutral salt,
without the addition of alcohol, the following experiments were made.
It has a dark yellow color, and after a time precipitates a dark
colored glutinous substance, whereby the solution obtains lighter yellow
color. The addition of some alcohol, about half as much by measure as
the quantity of the solution, preserves the preparation from becoming
moldy, and makes it fit for medicinal use.
A drop of this is not seldom a too large homeopathic dose. Ten to
twelve globules the size of poppy seeds moistened with it are usually
sufficient for a full dose."
2) Calcarea ostrearum is synonymous with Calcarea carbonica and was also
proved by Hahnemann as described in The Chronic Diseases:
"Break in pieces a clean, somewhat thick oyster shell, take one
grain of the softer, snow - white calcareous substance found between the
outer and the inner harder shell. this is prepared in all the degrees of
potencies up to X in the manner directed as to the preparation of dry
medicinal substances for homoeopathic use, given the conclusion of Part
I. this is preserved from sunlight and great warmth, to be used for its
various purposes."
3) Regarding the kingdoms, I have always thought of and seen the
Calcareas classified as minerals. However, the original Calcarea
carbonica was clearly derived from an animal source. From Gibson's
Studies of Remedies:
"This extremely important remedy can be classified as of animal
source in association with Sepia and Murex, its aquatic confreres. Just
as Sepia is prepared from the dark fluid secreted by the cuttlefish and
Murex from the dried secretion of the purple gland of Murex, the purple
fish, so this remedy, also known as Calcarea Ostrearum, is prepared from
the secretion of Ostrea edulis, the oyster.
The source of the remedy, the soft, snowy white calcareous
substance in the middle layer of the oyster's shell, is excreted by the
mantle of the mollusc and is in fact a deposit of finely crystalline
calcium carbonate."
Food for thought!
Regards,
Arlene
