OPIATE DEPENDENCY

Hello,

I firstly want to thank all you homeopaths out there who so generously contribute to the minuts group. I imagine you all have very busy practices. making time to help others means alot to more people than you probably realise. As a student you give me so much inspiration and knowledge. I am looking forward to the day when I too can contribute.

I want to treat someone who is currently on a drug called subutex to come off narcotic drug addiction. He is a clear Nux Vomica case constitutionally and after reportorising Nux came up four times stronger than any other remedy. I know that nux is a remedy that can help with drug addiction. He is cutting back his doses of subutex which of course leaves him feeling unwell. I believe subutex is a narcotic but i have enclosed a link if anyone is interested in what it does http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/ANSWERS/2 ... 01165.html I would like to give something to help the side effects and help come off the subutex sooner. Should i give a high dose of nux and then use drainage with a low dose or should i wait to see the specific side effects and reportorise these. I remember learning that nux clears drugs from the body. If this is true, wouldn´t that then increase the withdrawal symptoms because there is less subutex in his body to help him.

He is also addicted to marijuana and I was wondering if nux would also help with this. Unfortunately, I am not living in my normal country and my studies have been put on hold. I am unable to ask my lecturers and I have only studied 5 subjects of homeopathy so far. so I am going on what I remember. Any advice on potency would also be appreciated as this is my first real case.

Somebody mentioned a dose of 10 M to start with. Is this too high. Does anybody think this is not a good case for beginners.

Thank you in advance

Deb

Dear Deb,

I treated a drug addiction case recently (oxcycontin) which was the result
of poor medical treatment after an accident. Nux v is great with addictive
behavior but, as always, the remedy needs to fit the case, as does the
potency. This is always a difficult call and is very subjective. I would
try to evaluate he strength of the patient's vital force as well as the
intensity of the pts reaction. In my case I went in with a low potency
because the pt had reported great sensitivity to medications. That was not
a good choice as it turned out. She needed a very high potency to get the
condition under control. As a matter of fact we used 200c several times
daily on one remedy and 1M with other rx. If i was local to her, I might
have gone in with a 10M.

good luck

If you really feel out of your depth on this one you could help this guy by giving him Avena Sativa mother tincture - 7 drops three times a day in water. Its great for drug withdrawal. Read it up in the materia medica - and if you're using it in tincture you don't have to prescribe on the greater picture
good luck

Dear Deborah,

Regarding your case, and one of the reply, in which Avena is prescribed, it
is a good remedy, but IMHO, it is better to start with Nux, lower
dilutions, and Avena at some later stage. In such cases of drug addictions,
higher potencies are not suitable. The other remedies which may come in
focus are Cup, Bell, Passiflora and Alfalfa. But this is not the last word.
Do not think, 10M of a potency at this initial stage is nice one, better to
start with Nux 30.Take care.

Sincerely,
Zaidee.
Ps. You have to begin some where as a beginner...:):)!!!
