Hamamaelis-(Vermuelen Concordant)
Venous congestion,
haemorrhages, varicose veins, and
haemorrhoids, with
bruised soreness of affected parts, seem to be the special sphere of this remedy. Acts upon the coats of the veins causing relaxation with consequent engorgement.
Passive venous haemorrhages from any part. Great value in open, painful wounds, with
weakness from loss of blood. After operations, supersedes the use of morphia [Helmuth]. [2] Principle action on the VEINS, esp. of rectum, genitals, limbs and throat. Burns of the first degree, as a local application. Tense bursting feeling; in piles, joints or lower limbs. Congestive fulness. Veins; painful, sore, cutting, swollen; inflamed. Painful, hard, knotty; varicoses.
Haemorrhages; capillary, dark, fluid, better or causes undue weakness.
Pricking, stinging pains; in veins, muscles, skin. [4]
Great amount of prostration from small loss of blood. Much weariness; easily gets tired. [5] Traumatic inflammations. [6]
All sufferings worse menstrual period.
Chronic effects of mechanical injuries.
Takes cold easily, from every exposure, esp. in warm, moist air. [11] Pains often unbearable with great sensitiveness to touch and fear of exciting new pain on moving. Profuse discharges, which simulate a haemorrhage, and constitute a drain upon system as severe as loss of blood.
Bad effects from loss of blood. Varices, knotted appearance, extreme thinness of skin, blueness, almost blackness of pouches, parts feel soft and fluctuating. Purpura haemorrhagica with epistaxis and congestion of conjunctivae. Dissecting wounds.

Another Case:
American Homeopathic Review, June — July, 1860, page 412. "Curative Effect of Hamamelis," by L.M. Kenyon, M.D., Buffalo, N.Y.
Perhaps the following case, showing the curative effect of Hamamelis virginica, may be interesting to your readers.
Mary F., aged fourteen years, has always enjoyed tolerable health until within the last eighteen months, when she menstruated. The first time, there was considerable pain in the head and back for several days preceding it, accompanied by nausea, vertigo, etc. The flow was natural and recurred two succeeding months quite regularly, and without any of the unpleasant sensations which preceded the first. When the fourth period came round, there was no indication of menstruation, but in place of it quite free epistaxis; this continued for several months increasing in severity
each month. She was then placed under the care of an eclectic physician, who had treated her until I was called to visit her, as above stated, at the end of eighteen months. She was emaciated very much; no color in the cheeks or lips; pulse 140, and feeble; action of the heart very labored, but not giving any signs of organic lesion. Extremities considerably bloated; stomach very irritable; bowels constipated; urine scanty and clear; some cough and great dyspnea.
It was the day that the bleeding was to return, and I watched the case; there was over a quart of blood lost, it was thin, forming but very slight coagula. I gave her Hamamelis sixth and thirtieth dilutions in alternation, two doses of each in the twenty-four hours, which was all the medicine she got during the month following, except a few doses of Arsenicum for the dyspnea when it was troublesome. When the next month came round, she menstruated regularly and had no more bleeding; and from this time, she went on rapidly to a perfect recovery, using no other remedy but the
Hamamelis.
