BTW can someone tell me the difference between an ulcer and an abscess
please.

I have a 14 yr old female patient who has chronic abscesses in the groin.
She has been told that these are common in black skinned people. Can anyone
confirm this or suggest a rubric please. These discharge eventually but can
be painful. Sometimes the discharge is like "foundation makeup" - brown,
other times like a gelatinous string. I have prescribed a constitutional
remedy and hope that maybe it will sort these although I can't rep them.

Is it possible that she has chronic inguinal buboes (these would be lymphatic tissue inflammations, and typically suppurate), could be secondary to infection or immune assault of some kind, or could be “constitutional”. I have had very good results with the remedies of hepar-s 6X, 12X, and
calendula 6X take orally and with the same rx topically. With sores which
are not healing and appear more systemically my thinking would be more
miasmatic as in syph. Always with the appropriate picture

Wouldn't these be repertorized as something like Abdomen-eruptions- boils-inguinal region?? (ars,merc, nit-ac, phos, rhus-t, stram) At least I've used this rubric in repertorizing this same manifestation. An abscess is a pocket of infected material, with swelling. After it bursts and drains, if an open sore remains, it might be called an "ulcer." But what you're describing sounds to me like a "boil," or cyst, which has both stages. For what it's worth...

An abscess is an indurated, tender, discoloured with definable boundaries.
An ulcer I think affects surface areas. At times for abscess I have used
Nit Ac, Crotalus Horridus, Baryta Carb {in a case of recurring abscesses
in axilla] used before real infection set in, Hepar Sulph for more acute
stage. I believe Bellis Perennis can be indicated also in recurring abscess.
Perhaps Belladonna if in hot throbbing mode. One has to look for
constitutional factors. Jean

Note, in one rep (Knerrs) it mentions that if there are more than on, then

That's one of the classic challenges of repertorizing, unfortunately. Where
Kent decided something is located appears to have endured, whether it makes
sense or not. For instance, I don't consider the buttocks part of the
legs -- I'm more inclined to think that when they hurt, I have a
"backache." But in the Repertory, the "nates" are with the "extremities."
Go figure. Same kind of thing happens with the neck -- ever tried to find
neck tension or pain?? Then there's the face and the mouth. I would look
(and have done so, unfortunately) under "mouth" for lips. But, guess
again -- there they are with "face." Part of the lore of homeopathy. Oh,
well. )
