I have a patient with a rather distintive black-blue marking on the
front portion of her tongue it rather resembles an ink splash ... any
Ideas would be appreciated ....

You are urged to construct a more complete picture of the pt. Likely you will find organ dysfunction and pain and discomfort in a specific region or affecting a particular tissue terrain.
In oriental medicine we view the tongue as a photo album. It is regionalised; assessed by coloration of the tissue, markings, and coating. A color as you describe is interpreted as blood stagnation and where you describe it location would infer either digestive and/or diaphram disturbance. The forward tip is designated as heart lung region. Are these any use?
