Minutus

Any recommendation other than the usual Arnica and Phos(in case of
anaesthesia problems) to give in an operation pack to a patient that is
going in for a replacement hip tomorrow? I will be also giving Calendula in
case of bad wound healing and I always put Pyrogen in case of septicaemia.
I was wondering about Symphytum and even Calc Phos and Calc Fl. tissue
salts?

Rochelle, I have a book that recommends as well as Aconite before the op
for fear and anxiety, and the Phos for vomiting after (although this is not
the only one), but also, Hypericum, Staphys, and Ledum and Arnica for the
pain and soreness after surgery.

"Among these drugs Hypericum in potencies upto 1M induces restrul sleep
quickly and quite supersedes the use of Morphia, Pethidine and other
soporifics and pain killers. Hypericum bears repetition in such conditions.
Boericke mentions Ham as another one which supersedes Morphia. Staphysagria
at infrequent intervals is the key remedy for promoting the healing of the
incised tissues......Ledum is the remedy for pain in the sutures
Sul ac offers protection against both streptococcal and staphylococcal
infections following surgery and also useful if there is extravasations
into the tissues surrounding the wounds, as well as subcutaneious oozing of
blood or bleeding. This drug, used intercurrently with the other remedies,
Arnica, Hypericum and Staphysagria is at least as effective if not far more
than antibiotics as a prophylactic against surgical infection....."

(I recently gave someone Cham for vomiting after morphine for pain, and
this fixed it up instantly! It is the only remedy for consideration when
associated with the morphine)

Symph would be an excellent choice for healing; however, I would suggest
that for pain the remedies bear looking into are coloc.; cordyceps;&
cortisone, as low potency offerings. The cordyceps bears particlular use as
an herbal remedy for the same reasons homeopathically, it invigorates
circulation and therefore aids the healing process of the VF. A review of
MM should bear this similarity out. And the herbal family from which coloc.
is derived also bears review with similar actions in the MM of Hom. and
herbal. I would also think that the movement of fluid outward would prove
of benefit and a cell salt such as nat.-s should prove fitting.

Thanks for that . Were your notes specifically for a hip replacement or were
they for general surgery? I wouldn't think Aconite is called for as the
patient has been pushing for this operation.

I so agree with you about Cham. and Morphine. Years ago I got a patient off
the morphine drip after an operation using one dose of Cham. 30. The keynote
here was the irritability, can't stand the pain and nurses telling me that
they thought she had a low pain threshold!!
