Dear Jon

My understanding is that when you drop a C potency in a volume of water, the
whole amount of the water is then at that potency.
(But obviously greater dilution). It is the succussion that impart the
power.

Kent says never repeat the same potency.
So by plussing it, i.e. up to ten succussions you have altered the potency
ever so slightly. This enables it to further effectively stimulate the VF.

At the same time, because we have increase the potency ever so slightly,
(effectively we have gone from 30 to 31) then there should not be a risk of
aggn.

In LMs there is a much greater number of succussions 200? compared to 10 of
the C potencies. Hence the greater power.

Next time you have a liquid with a bouquet (wine or extract of rose, mint
etc) succuss the bottle and see how the bouquet changes. Make sure you have
two exact bottles so that after succussion you can compare the smell with
that of the unsuccussed!

Dear Willy and All

My teachers taught me to try and match the potency with the vitality of the
patient. Indeed, similarity should be observed in this aspect of homeopathy
too.

When the signs are strong, it means that the VF is strong and so you can
give high potency.

If you study the Organon (6) you will note that Hn refers to LM potencies as
his 'perfected' method. I find them exceptionally useful for chronic cases.

For acute cases, then I find 30c in a bottle of water and succussed 10 times
before every dose works well and allows you to give a slightly higher
potency at each dose and as frequently as may be required (every few minutes
if there is such a demand).

If you find that 30 C is not holding for very long, then you can switch to
200 C again in water.

If you start low it is rare that you cause aggravation and you can ALWAYS go
higher if needs be - not so good to come down in potencies.

I also have a theory that low potencies are like short barrelled shot gun.
You do not have to be too accurate in your symptom similarity and they work
well.
The higher the potency, they become like rifle shot, you need to be spot-on
in symptom similarity for them to work well.

Hello to all,

I read in different kind of sources (P. Guyt, de Schepper etc) that
for example C200 is prescribed in acute diseases, while I was told
to use a low(er) potency. Also I read that in chronic cases you give
a low potency.

This confuses me, can anybody explain?

Hi Soroush,

What reasons have you heard for this? I always hear it, but have not
found any problem with it--except that if a pt has already "used up"
one potency *and the focus of the problem hasn't changed*, then moving
down a step doesn't seem to work.

But I have myself been treated with a (for e.g.) 200c of a remedy that
I had previously had several very successful high potency doses of,
because the focus of my case had shifted--from M/E, down into a slow,
"stuck" sort of respiratory of "acute". It worked well.

I have used 12c doses to moderate aggravation of a 200c, and that too
worked well.
I have used 12c doses rather than repeating a lapsed high potency dose,
and that too has worked fine.
I have used a 6c of a remedy I was presentingly repeating in 12c, but
had momentarily lost that bottle, or grabbed the wrong one by accident.
That one worked somewhat less strongly, but alright.

So I am always curious why I keep hearing that you shouldn't move down
in potency! Any thoughts?

Best,
Shannon

Is it true that SH did not make or use potencies above 100?

Do you mean to include LM potencies?

Not true. His case writings show use of 200C, 199C etc. and correspondence from Melanie talks of 1M. Whether he made the 200C himself, I am not sure that is mentioned. In the manufacturing instructions he describes up to the 30C.
