Hi
First of all just to say thank you to everyone who replied to my post re the Arnica for accident. It really was & is very much appreciated - & to get so many was great. In the end i gave 200 tds, but am still waiting to hear the response.
Now another question - re my DAD & very PAINFUL ULCERS.
Ill try & be as brief as possible.
My Dad is 90yrs & for his age is actually in very good health. In July an ulcer appeared just above his ankle, although he is open to hom. he is also very Dr-orientated & duly went to the drs, who have duly attended to it on a weekly basis & each time said all is fine. However, about 3-4 wks ago he started to experience a lot of pain (which he cannot describe now although he did say 3 wks ago it was like toothache - so i tried cham but we dont know if its helped or not cos unless Im there he doesnt know how often to take them or he forgets (this is one of probs with elderly/family & why i was hoping the Drs would sort it!!). However, this morning he said that last night it seemed to start off as a stab initially & then theres a constant pain as if a knife is in it.
The Dr put him on AIBs a few wks ago, & now prescribed some stronger ones.
He is not getting much sleep as he does get a lot of pain at night (it seems to be worse at night, but he doesnt know if thats cos his mind is not otherwise occupied), but he does get pain in the day as well - both are random. When the nurse looked at it on Monday she said that he now had 3 ulcers (!!!!!! not just one) & that would explain why he was in so much pain.
Up to now I havent really given any rxs cos the drs seemed to have it under control (altho before we got the diagnosis i gave him a bit of lachesis & after the diag a bit of ham, but i think he only took a few pills - reasons given above!)
Now I am very concerned, he is in a lot of pain (intermittent), I have tried acon as well as cham just to address the pain, but i dont know if either helped.
He is taking Cocodamol from the Drs which doesnt seem to be helping either, last night he woke up about 2.30am took another lot of cocodamol & a cham 200 & must have eventually fallen back asleep, but he cant remember when etc.
I put him on ars from Wed tds, but i dont know if that will help the pain per se, hopefully it may help the ulcers but really i dont have any sxs to go on. The pain is not burning, he cant really describe it, theres NO discharge, pus, bleeding or anything like that, nor does it itch, in fact the nurse says its very clean. He had an x-ray but we're waiting for results. I've not seen the ulcer myself as its bandaged up & my dad doesnt want to remove in case he cant get it back on. One rubric says 'deep' i dont know if it is or not, altho i think the x-ray is to see if its going to the bone or not.
However, I do think its a varicose ulcer as he does have v/veins after standing on his feet for most of his life.
There are quite a few rbrcs that i dont u'stand, & dont know if i need to(?) its times like this when i wish i had a lot more medical knowledge or practical knowledge, which only meidcal professional will get eg: callous edges, fistulous, sanious, serpiginous, etc etc.
I dont know how long to stick with the ars, i tht about 5-7 days & if that doesnt help I have wondered about anthrac as that is under painful rbric & carbo veg is suggested for the elderly in one book - could i alternate that with another rx?.
At the mom my priority is not really the ulcer itself but the pain that its causing. All suggestions/comments would be most appreciated & i thank you all in advance.
