a case

Hello all,
I get the digest so your interactions will be delayed, please be
patient.
The case is my father, I know it would be ideal if he would see someone
else but that is not possible. I am still a student but would dearly
love to assist him.
His biggest complaints are numbness in his left hand, primarily the last
two fingers, it changes from all four to the last two, and sleep
problems.
He normally wakes a couple of times and often can't get back to sleep.
Waking at around 1:00 and 4:00 am. These are his biggest complaints,
however there is more.
He has emphysema, cannot get his breath easily, on meds (nebulizer 4x
per day) for this and they help. He coughs in the morning after rising.
He has prostrate problems, urgent urination and frequency.
Mentally he is frustrated, angered easily, restless, impatient and has
been all of his life. He is almost constantly taping his fingers on
something, moving his wrist joint in circles and moving his tongue
around his mouth. Has had ringworm off and on. He is thin, muscular for
a 76 year old and loves to be outdoors working. He is a farmer. Does not
like to be touched, pulls back. He has always had this martyr attitude.
He does all the "important" work "somebody's has to do it", yells at his
wife when no one else is around. (the children complain when he does it
in front of them). Worries alot, but it is not obvious unless asked. He
never gives a direct answer to a question, "i don't know". His son says
he is always on the fence, will never give a straight answer. Hates to
talk on the phone, (performance?) Drinks coffee, heavy meat eater,
dislikes cucumbers and raw foods. Smoked a pipe from 20's till a couple
years back and quit cold turkey when he had his teeth pulled, never
complained. Now sucks on a piece of candy almost all the time.
He was injured a few months back while driving the tractor, he says he
overused his arm and hand. It first was pain in the neck and shoulder
running down to the wrist and hand. Now it seems settled in the wrist
and hand. We considered the possibility of a mild stroke, had tests done
and results indicated he had not had a stroke.
