I hope this is not an inappropriate question. I am clearly a novice in
Homeopathy .
In treating acute situations - debatable I know - what is the suggestion
for my nephew
age 18 that was just in a auto accident. Severed liver - bruised all
over his body -
fractured kidney - bruised lung - cracked sternum bone. Definitely
trauma case.
He is doing well and if the kidney is clear of blood tomorrow he will go
home on Monday.
Would Arnica be appropriate for this acute trauma - if so what potency
and frequency - dry dose or dissolved in water?????

Hi Gail,

I'd give him Arn. 200c, dissolved in water if you can manage it - otherwise
dry dose would be fine.

In this case, you might like to be able to repeat the dose, using pain or
other indicator of WHEN to redose.

This is where the liquid posology is highly desireable.

Dear Gail,

I would try Arnica 200c dissolve in pure water ( not tap water ) and take a
sip more often for 3 to 4 days followed by Hypericum 200c to help healing
process faster. In acute cases the vitality is high and body intelligent
can cop well with high dose repeat, also he is young with strong
constitution.

I would also give this patient Bellis-p because of the deep trauma to
internal abdominal organs. Perhaps after a couple of days of Arnica, switch
to 200c Bell-p in water. Have the patient or helper stir the water several
times before each sip.

Hi all,

I notice a couple of people have suggested 200c, and I'm curious why you'd
give that, rather than 1M. In my experience for a really severe injury and
pain, 1M has been *definitely* more effective than 200c (on basis of only
two personal experiences, I found 1M gave much more complete pain relief, as
well as longer lasting), and so 1M would have been my thought for a case
like this. I'm wondering whether anyone feels 1M could be "too high" for
any reason, or whether it's just that 200 seems "high enough"?

In Hering's Guiding Symptoms there is a therapeutic indication for Arnica which states:

"Injurious after the bite of a dog or any rabid or angry animal."

Would anyone know the actual case details from which this reference is sourced?

If it is a true emergency then watching for that and thus giving the
simillimum would be far more important than routinely giving Arnica and
assuming that all was well
Respect the opinion, but I have had occasions when Arnica has worked where
other apparently better indicated remedies have failed.
Once on myself, I fell off a mountain bike on a track made from gravel and
brick ends and my elbow resembled a well tenderised beef steak. Took my arnica
and pedalled off almost as fast as before to get to my other remedies in my
car. Sometime later the wound went sceptic despite calendula cream and various
apparently indicated remedies. (cannot remember what I tried now, it was a
long time ago but had severe burning pain, no shock, and definitely no 'I am
OK, I do not need anything' I am not that macho ) eventually changing
back to arnica I had that wonderful feeling of the pain subsiding almost
immediately. It came back in a few minutes but went as soon as I repeated it. I
repeated every time the pain returned and it healed up quickly. OK maybe Arnica
suits me, I am a bit accident prone , but I have had similar experiences
with patients in the past, giving smartass apparently well indicated
prescriptions for injuries, only to be told that they did no good, but the Arnica
their granny recommended was great (has nobody else had that? come on lurkers and
others, own up
). OK perhaps it was just crap prescribing on my part (it was a few
years ago ) but now I muscle test arnica for almost any injury.
I do a little part time ski Instructing and leading and always carry a
bottle of liquid Arnica 30 mixed with Bach rescue remedy which I sprinkle on
people like holly water if anyone gets hurt. Great results usually.
When I do talks I often give out arnica 6 pills. I use the 6's because they
often make pain go for a few minutes and return again until another pill is
taken. If they take a 30 for a minor injury the pain generally goes away and
stays away, great, but they say the pain would have probably gone anyway. The
pain comming and going is much more convincing
Yes I know we should not have favourite remedies, but I have to admit to
being a big fan of arnica. I have heard of people who do not believe in
homeopathy recommending arnica not realising it was prepared homeopathically (note I
did not say homeopathic ).

I can think of numerous examples where the remedy prescribed on
aetiology (etiology) alone did more than remedies prescribed on
symptomology alone.
