Many years ago while travelling in New Mexico, I met an old Homeopath,
Dr. Wellborne at his office. He shared with me the volume of his work
(which he never published, too bad...) and explained that he found that
in order to antidote symptoms of over-medication and confusion in the
case he would do the following:

He would administer a single dose of Camphora 30C and wait at least ONE
MONTH before taking the case again.

He said that this method created clarity in very obscure and confounded
cases and led him to many 'brilliant' cures.

I used this technique only once when I had a client who had been
prescribed a 'mish-mash' of remedies by various Homeopaths and lay
people before he arrived at my office. It worked really wonderfully well.

It is difficult to decide where to begin to respond to this.

Perhaps the most important point which runs counter to what I know of
homeopathy is the concept of antidoting remedies as mentioned below.

How is one supposed to "antidote" the effects of a number of unsuccessful
prescriptions which may have caused long lasting effects?

Surely not by whipping the handy antidote chart and prescribing by it!

What Dr. Irish is advocating here fits reasonably well the tenets of
sequential therapy, but misses the mark as regards homeopathy.

Sequential therapy prescribes numerous remedies (quite often idiopathically
or isopathically) in sequential attempts to "clear" various trauma or
iatrogenic events.

In homeopathy we take the case (including iatrogenic symptoms, if any) and
we prescribe a remedy.

The most effective and beneficial "antidote" is always the "simillimum."

Ideally, we avoid repetition of non-homeopathic medicines, and therefore
seldom have need to think of "antidote" .. as any "proving" symptoms of a
remedy would normally fade over a reasonably short time.

In a situation where proving symptoms have been engrafted onto the VF; where
certain remedy effects have become an ongoing part of the symptom picture...
this is a "fait accomplis" .. a "done deal" in U.S. vernacular... these have
become a part of the case, and are treated as such.

Perhaps we will discuss this some more... meanwhile there is much that
speaks to this in Hahnemann's "Lesser Writings" .. and Organon #248 - #258.

Camphor is capable of antidoting only vegetable kingdom medicines and not from other groups like Minerals etc.

One antidoting strategy that goes back to Hahnemann, I believe, is to give
the same remedy in a lower potency, once. Or else, prescribe again, a
different remedy based on the symptom picture that now needs changing. But
one only very rarely needs to actually antidote a homeopathic medicine.

Dear Tanya,
Generally speaking for deep acting medicines, it is very difficult to
antidote deep acting medicines and nosodes. Pulsatilla and Nux Vom is
considered to antidote medicines from mineral kingdom to some extent. I have
seen one death after taking wrong doses of nosodes (Tuberculinum), as these
can't be antidoted by any medicine. When patient comes from allopathic
treatment in India old homoeopaths first gave NV for antidoting the effects
of allopathic medicines. I in my practice rarely give any antidote to
patients coming from allopathic side. The selected medicine will start
showing effect after the initial few doses or one days treatment. When the
patient comes from another homoeopath/s, it is very difficult to know about
the prescription, as in India pvt practitioners (homoeopathy) never issue
the prescription to the patients, they only give an identification number to
the patient/s. In such cases the indicated medicine will take care in
majority cases but some times a total failure.
